Hello to everyone on the forum. About nine months ago, my father was diagnosed with squamous cell esophageal cancer. He has already undergone radiation and several rounds of chemotherapy. Recently, they discovered metastasis in his lungs, and now the doctors are suggesting either Taxol or Xelod. Here is the catch—these drugs aren't actually covered by insurance for this specific type of cancer; they are typically only prescribed for colon or breast cancer. The plan is for him to undergo three cycles of chemo to see if there's any response—though the success rate is only around 10-15%—and if it works, they continue, but if not, he’s essentially left to his own devices. Since he can't get them through his insurance, I would have to pay for them out of pocket. That would cost me roughly $5.00 just for those initial three cycles, and quite frankly, I don't have that kind of money lying around. Has anyone here dealt with something similar? Is there any way, any way at all, to access Taxol for free or perhaps through some kind of deferred payment plan? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
