The movie is based on that killer book by James Jones—honestly, if you ask me, Remarko is the absolute best at capturing what war actually feels like. If you haven't read it yet, consider this my warmest recommendation. I think some small-time publisher out of somewhere like Cincinnati or maybe even Chicago put out a translation back in the 70s or 80s. His most famous work is "from now until eternity." My only gripe? The book is massive. They really could've stretched it out into two or three separate movies instead of trying to cram it all in here—it feels a bit rushed and unfinished.
