ABC Letters in Software ·
coppersailor28, I honestly don't get why you feel the need to go off on a tangent right after we settled the main issue.

Look, if someone decides they want to build an entire website using Microsoft Office, hey, that's their business.
Sure, they might struggle through the process only to end up with something that looks absolutely hideous—but again, that's on them.

You’ve gone down this rabbit hole of useless analysis, questioning why on earth I would even need this specific software, which is completely irrelevant to the point.
What's next? Are we going to sit here and analyze why I still insist on playing cassette tapes on my old boombox when MP3 players exist (even though I own those too)?

Look, it's simple. I just want this particular program because I happen to love the shade of green in the bottom right corner of its logo. That's it.
😵

The point isn't about WHICH software I need or don't need; it's about WHY the computer is behaving this way and HOW to actually fix it.

William Richardson12, I actually wrote out a whole response thanking you for everything regarding this topic and what happened afterward, but the moderator wiped it clean.

I suppose he’s the only one who knows the real reason behind that.

But hey, fine. Whatever.

analogwalker2 says:

1. There are plenty of reasons for that.
2. If you can't figure out why—just try it and you'll see. Maybe if you're lucky, it'll click.

Anyway, thanks, cheers everyone, and thanks again.

Alright man, thanks! I'll give that one a shot and try to get it downloaded and installed.
It doesn't even need to be in US English, since the current one isn't either.

Everything else runs perfectly fine. I’m talking about Corel, Word, Excel, PowerPoint—literally every other program on my machine works without a hitch. It is JUST that one specific thing and these dictionaries.
ABC Letters in Software ·
Yeah, you can use any font you want in Adobe Photoshop.
These dictionaries come with their own built-in fonts, so there isn't really a way to swap them out.
It doesn't matter if I type in Arial, Tahoma, Times New Roman, or whatever else—they stay the same.
ABC Letters in Software ·
To’s the specific one I mentioned, Adobe Photoshop.
As for those dictionaries, they're just standard English and German ones without any special branding.
Honestly, though, I don't really care about them nearly as much as I care about that Adobe Photoshop issue.
I noticed the exact same thing happening with the dictionaries, but I barely even use them anyway.

The real headache is that these programs don't even give you access to those kinds of settings.
I mean, they used to run perfectly fine, truly. And then, out of nowhere, everything just went haywire, and now we're stuck with this mess.
Even after a clean reinstall, they won't budge.

Greetings!

I just finished installing Windows, and I set everything up using the US language pack. Most programs pick it up without any issues, but a few specific ones are being stubborn.
Is this an issue with the individual software settings, or am I missing something deeper in the system?
I've spent quite a bit of time digging through the settings menus in these programs, but I can't find anything related to language preferences, character encoding, or anything remotely similar to fix this.
It makes me wonder—do these apps pull their font data directly from their own internal files, or are they pulling everything from the Windows system itself?
To be more specific, I'm having trouble with my English and German dictionaries, and also with a graphics program called Adobe Photoshop. When I try to type text using special characters like ABC in Adobe Photoshop while editing photos, the program just strips them away and turns them into plain letters without the accents.

Everything else seems to be running perfectly fine.

I even tried reinstalling the problematic programs entirely, but it didn't change a thing; the exact same issue persists.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or offer some advice on how to resolve this?
Thanks a million!
🙏
Much appreciated!
🙂
Hey there!
I was dealing with some kind of skin rash, so I went in for blood work back on June 13th.
My white blood cell count was up, and even the differential looked a bit off.

A few days later—on the 16th—I had my labs redone, and everything had more or less stabilized.

So, here’s my question... since I had been slamming Vitamin C for those three days (about 2 grams a day), can anyone with actual expertise tell me if that could have influenced the follow-up results? Specifically, is it possible for that much Vitamin C to mask or "camouflage" certain levels, or is it simply not capable of having that kind of impact?
I've attached images of both sets of results here.

Uncontrolled Shortcut creation issues in IT Support ·
Yeah, I gave that a shot too.
No dice.
I even tried a system restore.
Not a single thing is working.

It’s bizarre. For instance, if I move files over to my secondary internal drive (the G🙂 drive), everything stays perfectly fine. But the second I try to move anything to an external drive, it starts copying, and then—within thirty seconds—it just turns everything into a shortcut.
The absolute worst part? I have a massive music collection on my MP3 player. When I plugged it into my PC to add just one more song, the computer wiped everything out and turned every single track into a shortcut instead.
Now, the player won't even recognize any of the old songs anymore. It's completely bricked.

Honestly, I am at my wit's end here. I have no clue what else to try.

Greetings.
So, I’m running into a real headache here. Every time I try to move a basic file—I mean anything from a simple .txt or PDF to an MP3 or a design file—from my desktop onto a USB drive or a microSD card, things go sideways.
The file transfers over just fine, but then, after a few seconds, it somehow transforms itself into a shortcut right before my eyes.
Now, if I click it on my computer, the file actually opens perfectly fine. That isn't the issue. The real problem is when I plug that USB into my car stereo to listen to music, or even into my phone; they can't read shortcuts. They just see nothing.

To make matters worse, I noticed something truly bizarre. If I try to delete these pesky shortcuts, they vanish for a moment, but then—poof!—they reappear a few seconds later as if they were never gone. WTF!!??

I’ve already tried being thorough and ran scans with several different antivirus programs and other cleanup tools to catch any malware or junk.
Everything comes back clean.

Why on earth is this happening?
And more importantly, how do I fix it?
Please, I am begging for some guidance here because I feel completely helpless against this digital gremlin.
Thank you so much!
😢
Greetings, everyone!
I have a quick question regarding my recent blood work.
Essentially, my complete blood count looks fine for the most part, but my white blood cell count is elevated.
To be honest, I don't feel any pain at all, nor am I experiencing any symptoms like inflammation or anything of that nature.
At least, none that I can detect.
So, I feel absolutely fine.
The only thing is, just about a week ago, I finished a course of treatment for a skin infection. It was treated with corticosteroids, though nothing taken orally—just a topical cream.
I’m really not sure if that could be what's causing this or not.
You can check out the results right here:

Potassium Chloride in Health ·
I don't really have any issues regarding my potassium levels. I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, fish, raisins, apricots, you name it.
I picked up some effervescent Potassium Magnesium + C tablets from Natural Wealth, and I was wondering—if I start taking these instead of just drinking fruit juice, is that going to cause any problems?
I mean, given how solid my diet already is, am I at risk of overdoing it on the potassium?
Thanks!
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
Hey everyone!
I’m looking for a solid, highly recommended ENT specialist here in the States.
My primary care doctor has been struggling with my clogged ear for two months now—it's just going nowhere.
After trying every over-the-counter remedy under the sun, she finally told me I need to have the canal professionally cleared out.

Please, PLEASE give me some real recommendations based on your own experiences. I am genuinely terrified of doing something wrong and messing up my hearing.

THANK YOU!!

Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice? in Health ·
I’m a total wimp when it comes to anything involving... well, let's just say "down there," and on top of that, my pain tolerance is practically non-existent.
But look, I’ll just have to grit my teeth and deal with it if I ever want this nightmare to end.
How? Honestly, I haven't a clue.
It didn't help that I stumbled upon that news story about that incident over in Cleveland today.
Just as I was psyching myself up to take some kind of decisive action, I run right into an article like that.
🙂

Basically, I'm torn between traditional surgery and the laser approach (those are the only
two methods I've even heard of, though please tell me if there's something else out there), so I'm wondering
what the actual difference is between a standard procedure and
laser surgery (or whatever other fancy options exist)?
Specifically, I'm looking at:
1. effectiveness,
2. the risk of complications,
3. recovery time.
Those three points are what I need to know. If there is a kind soul out there who can
give me some solid, reliable answers, I would be incredibly grateful.

Please, I am looking for an accordion player for a party. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks, placiddrifter26, for the reply and the suggestion.

That’s pretty much what I was thinking.
A sudden stop to my exercise routine—which, mind you, I used to stick to religiously every other day—combined with
the old habit of snacking that just never went away.
It was bound to catch up with me.

As for Omega-3, I heard some talk about potential carcinogenic properties being found in certain supplements. Honestly, I don't know. I heard the rumor, but I can't say for sure.
Maybe you or someone else in this group knows more and can confirm or debunk it.
Anyway, until things become clearer, I'm betting that a proper, balanced diet combined with
getting back into sports (even if it's just recreational, but at least regular) could help bring these lab numbers down.
Well, I finally got my lipid panel back, and here is how things look:

Total Cholesterol = 4.9 ( HDL = 1.2 (>1.0)
LDL = 2.5 ( Triglycerides = 2.7 (
Everything seems to be hovering right on the edge of the acceptable range, except for those triglycerides—they shot way past the limit.
Budo .... Anthony .... any thoughts on these numbers? What should my next move be?
Thanks!

Did I somehow totally miss the mark on my question about those Holter results and my thyroid, or is everyone just ignoring me? Or maybe, just maybe, nobody actually knows how to explain what this Holter monitor even picked up.
Come on, please. 🙂
I honestly tend to trust our resident forum doctors more than anyone else. Even if nothing happens—it’s not like I’m terrified of things being hopeless.
Anyway, the cardiologist I saw is tied up with some other stuff right now. While I wait for him to get back in a few days to review everything, I would really, truly love to know if I should be panicking or what?
Can I go hit the gym, or am I stuck staying home and resting?
