Reinstalling Windows in IT Support ·
Larry Ortiz5 said:Don't bother installing anything over the current setup like @Freyr suggested; honestly, that whole process is total garbage. Just wipe the hard drive completely and grab a fresh copy of Windows using this tool https://www.heidoc.net/php/Windows%2...Downloader.exe One heads-up though: make sure you download the exact same version of Windows 10 you're running right now. If you're on Home and try to force an install of Pro, your key isn't going to work. As for the activation itself, don't sweat it—the license is tied to your hardware. Once you get back online after the reinstall, Windows will activate itself automatically.

So, if I just wipe the drive and perform a clean install, my key stays valid? In that case, it’s definitely better to just start fresh—at least I'll finally have a clean laptop.

THANKS

Here’s how I think you should handle reinstalling Windows 10. Since the laptop came pre-installed with Windows 10, I'm not entirely sure how you plan to reinstall it without losing your activation key—unless you know better? Also, how are you planning to partition the hard drive when it's just one single partition straight out of the box?
