The diagnosis is lung cancer with metastases in the liver. However, the patient has gained a few pounds recently, and their condition fluctuates constantly from one day to the next. One day they seem fine and full of energy, and the very next day the pain returns. The size of the tumor isn't actually large. So, I’m wondering—is it normal for a doctor to say with such certainty that chemotherapy won't work and that we should prepare for the worst?
