Well, when I try to update it, the system just won't recognize the processor—it’s like the BIOS won't even get past the initial stage. When I pop in that 2.8 dual Core, I can hear the CPU spinning up, but the monitor stays completely black.

So, I recently picked up an Intel ® Pentium ® D 820 (that’s the 2M Cache, 2.8 dual Core version with the 800 MHz FSB) and tried popping it into my rig. The first time I hit power, the fan kicked on and then the whole thing just shut itself down immediately. The second attempt? It actually stayed running—fan and all—but I’m getting absolutely nothing on my monitor. Just a black screen. Interestingly enough, when I swap back to my old 1.8 dual Core, everything works perfectly fine.
I did a little digging online and stumbled upon the idea that I might need to flash a BIOS update.
Well, I gave that a shot, but it didn't exactly go according to plan—it was a total fail.
