Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice?

Roughly how long is the wait for hemorrhoid surgery if you aren't going private? From what I can tell, it looks like third-degree... hasn't been an issue until now, though. It literally popped up overnight—about the size of a walnut—and now I can't even go to the bathroom normally. No bleeding or anything. For the last few years, I just had some minor, occasional bleeding from this tiny one that never actually prolapsed. Barely even felt it, never caused any trouble...
