Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice? in Health ·
stormypanther55 said:[I have this nagging feeling that the inflammation just never truly goes away... it just fluctuates in intensity..😠

It often feels that way... honestly, my own inflammation hasn't really cleared up over the last year either... it just ebbs and flows... which is exactly why I eventually pulled the trigger on surgery... well, I'm five weeks post-op now... and things are generally fine... though, I have to admit, for the last two days, I've been feeling some discomfort again, just a dull ache... and it’s always in that exact same spot... right where the polyp was on the hemorrhoid...
I suppose everything just hasn't fully healed up yet... plus, I was sick a few days ago and they put me on an antibiotic that gave me diarrhea, so that probably just irritated everything while it's still pretty fresh...

you can pick up Hemophilin over the counter at any pharmacy...

I really don't think you should be seeing a return of those symptoms🙂..By next June, it will have been two years since I had my hemorrhoids operated on using the same method you did, and I've even gone through childbirth in the meantime, and I'm happy to report everything is perfectly fine!!

Patrick White9,
Regarding homeopathy, I can see where you're coming from—there’s something to be said for anything natural that works in harmony with your own body's rhythm. But honestly? I find it hard to believe it'll do much for third-degree hemorrhoids. You might manage to keep them somewhat under control, but they aren't going anywhere. Nobody, not even my doctor, can give me any guarantee that they won't come back... ever. My proctologist told me there was a 99% chance they would return. I ended up having surgery at the Mayo Clinic, and I really can't say a single negative word about my experience there or the people involved. They use an ultrasonic scalpel for the procedure; it isn't some barbaric situation involving knives and axes like some people still imagine😁. The recovery is definitely painful, but it doesn't even come close to the constant misery you're dealing with right now. The worst part is the pain after using the bathroom, but if you anticipate that moment and take some Voltaren Rapid the second you feel the urge, it helps. I fought this battle for years, and looking back, I realized my entire life had just shrunk down to nothing but managing those symptoms and the pain they caused. I hate being the type of person to give unsolicited advice, but I truly think surgery might be your way out. At the end of the day, it's your life and your choice... though maybe it's worth holding out for another two weeks to get an appointment at THD. If they do come back, you'll always have the surgical option, just like I did. I've actually been under the knife twice myself😢. But hey, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? That's the honest truth👍

I’ve been doing a bit of digging online regarding this THD thing. From what I can gather, it was developed in Italy just a few years ago. Generally speaking, the feedback seems positive, and there are plenty of recommendations from doctors over there. It’s actually been discussed on health segments on both BBC and CNN. They operate based on the THDLab patent (http://www.thdlab.com/) globally—you see clinics in London, the USA, and so on. It’s even started showing up here recently. That said, when I checked with my proctologist in San Francisco, he hadn't heard a word about it. Over the next few days, I'll try to pull together a summary of what I find on various international sites and forums.

If you don't mind me asking, which proctologist in San Francisco were you seeing? Since I'm also from San Francisco and had my surgery there, I think we all share that same goal: finding a way to make the procedure and recovery as painless as possible (a smoother road, if you will🙂). This method sounds incredibly tempting, and logically, judging by how they describe it, it should have a pretty high success rate. I chose the more difficult path myself, and I don't regret it, but it might still be worth looking into a little more. It would be great if someone who has actually gone through this specific type of procedure could chime in.🙂
Anyway, let's just wait for Amy Cooper2 to get it done, and then she can give us the full scoop!🙂

Patrick White9 said:After spending ten days on FedEx and four days on Announce, while also dealing with constant applications of Fact ointment and soothing myself with chamomile baths—mostly to manage that unbearable burning and pain deep inside my backside, which always seemed to peak between two and eight hours after my morning bathroom trips—I finally went to see a specialist this afternoon.

The diagnosis is as follows:
Internal hemorrhoids, Grade III, bleeding.
Looking at the typical locations where internal hemorrhoidal nodes tend to cluster, there's a particularly nasty ulceration at the 11 o'clock position when the patient is in the lithotomy position, which is bleeding quite heavily with fresh blood.

My doctor is basically telling me that creams aren't going to cut it anymore; he claims they can't really treat this stuff at this stage and won't do much for me, so his big recommendation is to just go under the knife. He’s talking about full general anesthesia, an overnight stay at the hospital, and then facing what sounds like a pretty brutal six-week recovery period afterward. According to him, I've reached the point where there's no sense in waiting around—it’s surgery or nothing. And then, of course, there's the price tag. $2833My proctologist actually had the nerve to tell me he performs those kinds of surgeries "on the fly," like he’s just pulling them out of a hat during a lunch break.

I finally got around to reaching out to that medical clinic in Washington, D.C., the one where they have a specialist flying in from Israel every six weeks to perform those hemorrhoid removals using the THD method. I was mostly just looking for the price. $2967The guy over at the clinic is telling me I can head back to work as early as tomorrow, claiming there won't be any lingering post-op pain and that those chemicals will never bother me again. Honestly, I've heard it all before, but I suppose I can hold onto that optimism for a little while.
Furthermore, this individual claims that during his nine months working here in the States, he managed to cure about thirty people using this specific method.
Has anyone here actually gone through with the THD procedure to deal with hemorrhoids? I'm trying to get a sense of what the recovery is really like.
Does anyone have any feedback to share on this?

What would you all do if you were in my shoes?
So, I’m staring at these two options and honestly, it feels like a bit of a lose-lose situation. On one hand, you’ve got the full surgical route—we're talking general anesthesia, a whole ordeal, and then bracing yourself for six weeks of brutal postoperative pain. On the other hand, there's the quick thirty-minute procedure done under local anesthesia where you're basically back on your feet just a few hours later. And the kicker? The price tag is practically identical for both. It really makes you wonder why anyone would ever choose the long, painful road when the short version is right there.

This whole situation involving The Home Depot looks almost too good to be true. I find myself wondering if it actually is, or if there’s just some catch waiting to trip us all up.

To wrap things up, I'll leave you with one little interesting tidbit.
After sitting through an anoscopy that was, quite frankly, excruciatingly painful—though thankfully brief—I’m actually feeling strangely wonderful tonight. It’s a bizarre sensation, considering I’ve been feeling absolutely miserable for the last ten days since my chemical imbalance flared up. The nurse insisted they didn't apply any topical anesthetic before the procedure, which feels like a bit of a stretch given how much it hurt. I did take two capsules of Tylenol with codeine earlier this afternoon, but I find myself wondering if that could really be the reason for this sudden relief. Is it possible the specialist just managed to "shoot the problem" directly, finally settling things down, or am I just sitting in a temporary lull before everything feels ten times worse tomorrow morning? Does anyone have any insight on this?

I’ve been doing some digging into that specific method, and based on everything I can find, it seems like they’re telling the truth about how it works. As for me, I ended up going through the standard surgical route instead, and honestly, I didn't have to pay a single cent out of pocket at the hospital.🙂My proctologist didn't mince words when he sat me down; he gave me a pretty grim heads-up about what that kind of surgery actually entails. He was very clear about the potential fallout, specifically the risk of permanently damaging the sphincter muscle, which basically means losing any real control over my bowel movements. It’s one of those things you don't really want to dwell on, but he made sure I understood the stakes.😲I have to admit, I also saw the clear upside to it all—permanently tackling the root cause by burning away those primary hemorrhoids that were basically fueling the secondary ones. Once those main culprits were gone, the secondary issues finally had a chance to subside on their own. In any case, relief was finally within reach. Even though I went in knowing the postoperative recovery would be slow and pretty painful, I didn't hesitate for a single second. It was total anesthesia, a couple of days in the hospital, and then back home to heal. Fast forward to today, and I’m a very happy pregnant woman, seven months along now, with completely regular movements and absolutely no pain, no bleeding, and not a single hemorrhoid in sight.👍Whatever the end result turns out to be, my diagnosis was pretty much on par with yours, only I was already neck-deep in Stage IV. Whether it’s a setback at The Home Depot or just one of those classic life hits, you’re going to find a way to come out the other side and start over.😁👍

P.S. I should probably mention that before my last standard procedure, I actually had surgery using a stapler, and even then, the hemorrhoids managed to make a comeback after just six months...

mistytrucker47 said:So, here’s my situation. I’ve got these two tiny external hemorrhoids that honestly don't bother me one bit, but I noticed a little bit of blood, so I decided to go see a doctor. He told me to just use some Fact ointment. So, I did exactly what I was told and went out to pick up the stuff, but then I noticed there's this applicator included in the packaging. Since the doctor didn't really specify, I'm sitting here wondering if I actually need to bother with the applicator for external hemorrhoids, or if I can just apply the ointment with my finger and call it a day? 🙂

I'm aware that when you're dealing with internal application, you're going to need an applicator.

You don't actually need an applicator for external hemorrhoids—those are only meant for the internal ones. And honestly, I have to hand it to you for being so brave. You’ve only dealt with two external ones so far, yet you've already made the trip to see the doctor.😁That sounds like a solid plan to me.👍

I find myself nodding along with what Jessica Grant56 said; when you're dealing with chronic hemorrhoids, there isn't really a magic fix other than learning how to manage them and figuring out how to coexist with the discomfort. I've been through the wringer with this myself, suffering for quite a while before finally deciding to have two surgeries. It wasn't until that last traditional procedure that I actually felt like I could live a normal life again. Thankfully, pregnancy hasn't brought them back on me yet, though I'm crossing my fingers that it stays that way. My takeaway from all this is pretty simple: you either stick to the management routine mentioned earlier or you go under the knife—specifically the classic surgery if things have gotten as bad as they were for me. Honestly, life just feels so much better when you aren't constantly fighting hemorrhoids.🙂

Honestly, I don't even know what to say; motherhood is one of those things that carries more weight than anything else, really. If I had to offer any kind of commentary, it would probably just be a quiet, unspoken sense of admiration for certain people of the opposite sex... though, mind you, I'm only talking about certain people here, and I'm certainly not going to shout it from the rooftops.

..we won't let it go to our heads, don't you worry about that.😉Thanks for all the well wishes!

Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve checked in here—honestly, when things aren't aching, I don't even think about logging on. Those of you who have been lurking around these forums for a long time might remember 🙂that I went under the knife for a standard procedure back during my sixth month of pregnancy. Thank God everything has stayed stable so far; there isn't a trace of those hemorrhoids left, though I have to admit I’m constantly looking over my shoulder, terrified they'll make a comeback. It’s hard to shake that lingering anxiety after spending years fighting them. Anyway, I have some news: I’m pregnant. I finally decided to take the plunge again right when my symptoms were at their absolute worst, because, truthfully, the desire to have a child outweighs any physical pain or past trauma 👍..I'm sure 😁Jessica Grant56 will have plenty of "expert" opinions on motherhood coming her way 😉..I'm basically getting a discount on surgery by being the one doing the birthing! 🙂

I think Dennis Bennett43 makes a pretty fair point here; anyone dealing with hemorrhoids needs to be incredibly disciplined about their diet and staying active. If I’d been a bit more proactive and looked after myself sooner, I probably wouldn't have ended up needing surgery, but hindsight is always twenty-twenty. I know exactly what you meant when you said there’s no real fix for those heavy-bleeding cases. Honestly, there isn't much choice—you either endure the pain or go under the knife, which is exactly what I ended up doing. These days, I’m strictly following the rules: a clean diet, plenty of fruit, lots of fiber, and making sure I get out for walks and stay moving. My digestion is finally running like clockwork, the wound is almost completely healed, and I feel great 🙂. Today was actually my first day back at work after being out on medical leave, and honestly, it feels like a total rebirth. My doctor even went out of his way to tell me that standing on my feet all day isn't nearly as bad for hemorrhoids as sitting for long stretches. It’s funny how true that old saying is—a healthy person has a thousand wishes, but a sick person only has one 👍.

Just checking in from my sickbed for a moment. My recovery is actually going quite well, provided I stick strictly to everything the doctor laid out for me—lots of light meals, plenty of fruit, and enough yogurt to satisfy a small army. I’ve also been trying to incorporate some salt water soaks since I’m lucky enough to live right by the coast, though the weather lately has been absolutely miserable. I’m keeping things pretty low-key, just short walks and lots of sitting around... honestly, I feel like a completely different person after this surgery.👍..The healing process is definitely a slow crawl, but looking back, it was worth every single bit of post-op pain.😉..Anyway, I truly hope everyone else finds a way through their own health struggles too.

nimblebison1 said:I didn't touch anything spicy or heavy that day; after lunch, I had a bowel movement and there wasn't even a drop of blood. I didn't eat anything else in the afternoon besides some ice cream, but once I got back from my workout, there it was again—another bowel movement, only this time the bleeding was much worse. Everything seems fine now, though, because like I mentioned before, these tablets really did the trick for me. 😉

In that case, you’re probably best off just sticking to whatever actually works for you. It really does help to stick to lighter meals... honestly, if you can, it might be worth keeping a little log of which foods trigger things, just so you aren't guessing when it happens.

nimblebison1 said:I can tell you that yesterday, after polishing off a massive serving of cold ice cream, I had a bowel movement that bled a bit more than usual; prior to that, there wasn't even a single drop because those Encian Hemoroidin tablets I’ve been taking really did the trick... personally, they worked for me, though I can't exactly vouch for whether they'll do the same for anyone else 😉.. I just went again a moment ago and there isn't a trace of blood, so my best guess is that the sheer volume of cold ice cream was what triggered yesterday's mess 😉

Try to think back on what you ate right before the ice cream, because honestly, it would be a first for me to hear about dairy causing issues like that... all I know is that sometimes people get diarrhea from eating something too cold, and we all know how much that doesn't help when you're dealing with hemorrhoids. Dealing with diarrhea is just a nightmare when you're already struggling with bleeding😲

Had my first follow-up appointment today... everything looks great so far. I'm still sticking to a light diet and spending plenty of time swimming in the ocean😛! It’s honestly the best part of this whole thing

Elizabeth Lopez48 said:Diet plays a massive role in managing any kind of disorder, and keeping up with hygiene is just as vital.

I’m inclined to disagree with that, honestly. I’ve never been one for greasy or heavily spiced food, yet here I am dealing with this anyway—and as far as hygiene goes, that’s just common sense to me. That said, I won't argue that what we eat impacts our health; I'm completely on board with that part.

I guess I’ll just be one of those overly intense fitness fanatics then😁..I used to lean more towards the athletic type😉..but honestly, skipping the heavy stuff for lighter meals feels right for the summer, and I actually feel a lot better for it. Yesterday, I made a real effort to get down to the beach, and let me tell you, jumping into the ocean was a total lifesaver! Plus, my backside felt surprisingly good out there😁..recovery seems to be moving along nicely..

If you’re looking at this kind of thing as just a mild form of fasting, then yeah, you’ve pretty much hit the nail on the head.🙂😂

I’m in complete agreement with Jessica Grant56. Honestly, I just made it back home today following my surgery, and as you can see, the turnaround was pretty quick—two days in the hospital and by the third day, I'm already back in my own living room. Everything went incredibly smoothly, without any complications or unexpected hiccups. I did feel some pain immediately after the procedure on the first day, but it wasn't even close to the level of discomfort people warned me about; it really wasn't that bad. Yesterday felt even better, and today the only real discomfort comes after using the bathroom, which seems perfectly normal. If I had known this standard procedure would be this manageable, I probably would have opted for this instead of the stapler method from the very start. Anyway, the current plan involves sticking to a light diet, doing warm salt water soaks (though I’m hoping to get to the beach soon), and avoiding sitting down whenever possible. I truly feel like I might finally be able to live a normal life again🙂. Just for context, I was dealing with 3rd and 4th degree hemorrhoids, so it was quite a situation😱
Dealing with hemorrhoids in Health ·
Look, Jessica Grant56, don't be quite so hard on them! 🙂We all know there are times when it feels much easier to just ask for advice here rather than sitting in a doctor's office... though, I suppose when we're talking about actual bleeding, I have to agree with you... you can't just go around playing games with unsolicited medical tips. Seriously, people! EXAMS AREN'T THAT INTENSE, TRUST ME! Especially when you're just starting out and everything hasn't really reached that painful stage yet.
