My mother was diagnosed with ocular muscle dystrophy a few days ago. Since there isn't much information available online, I’m hoping to find some more specific answers here. First off, is it possible for a diagnosis like this to be incorrect? She had her exam at the Mayo Clinic, but the doctor's outlook wasn't exactly comforting. He mentioned that over the next several years—whether it's one, five, or ten, he couldn't say for sure—she could potentially lose vision in that eye entirely, and that there are currently no effective treatments. Could her high prescription, which is over -10, have contributed to the progression of this condition? Ultimately, I am looking for as much information as possible regarding this disease and any potential treatment options.
