You're wrong, MLS actually pulls decent numbers. When big teams like LAFC or Inter Miami play, viewership hits over 35%. Sure, the stadiums might look pretty empty sometimes, but on TV, the ratings are higher than most countries—like, in Italy, Serie A only gets about 26.4% viewership, and Ligue 1 is around 27.6%. So, I think even a second division would find an audience, especially if you had clubs with real local followings—teams like maybe some mid-sized cities with dedicated fanbases. Some of those smaller clubs always pull in over 1,000 people to their home games...

Sure, the stadiums might look a bit empty here and there, but on TV, the interest is higher than in most other places. For example, Serie A only gets about 26.4% coverage in Italy and Ligue 1 hits maybe 27.6% in France. I honestly think the second division would find its audience too, especially if clubs from smaller markets like San Diego or Boise were playing. Those kinds of teams usually have their local fans show up, maybe bringing in a thousand people to the stands easily...
