2. Which kind of specialist—what’s their field—is suggesting a hematologist?
3. Any digestive issues or similar history in your family?
4. This definitely needs more follow-up... see a hematologist first, then decide on the next steps based on what they find.

First of all, thanks for getting back to me.

1. None of those things have been tested yet...
2. My endocrinologist thinks I need to see a hematologist (I’m managing Type 2 diabetes)
3. No digestive problems personally, nor does anyone else in my family...
4. Could you tell me what a result like this might actually point to?...
Hello, fellow forum members,
I find myself somewhat stuck regarding my red blood cell counts. This whole issue has been dragging on, and with every new lab report, things seem to be slipping just a tiny bit further...
One doctor is pushing for a consultation with a hematologist, yet my primary care physician insists there's no need to bother with a specialist.
The blood work looks like this:
RBC 3.64
Hemoglobin 130
Hematocrit 0.368
MCV 101.1
MCH 35.6
MCHC 352
RDW 18.1
HDW 44.5
WBC 10.5
Anisocytosis ++
Macrocytes +++
Hyperchromic erythrocytes +++
Hypochromic erythrocyte fraction 1.6
Polychromasia +++
ferritin 177

Everything else falls within the standard reference ranges.
Physically, I don't feel any specific symptoms, though I have been dealing with profound fatigue for months now, and occasionally there’s a brief moment of dizziness...
I am curious as to what these results might indicate, and whether seeking out a hematologist is actually necessary.
I would appreciate any insights you might have.
