Your IgG came back positive, which means you've got immunity and you're protected. You were exposed to the virus at some point, though it's hard to say exactly when.
The IgM is negative, even if it's hovering near that "upper limit of normal." Given what you told me, it's a bit confusing, but I’d still interpret it as negative.
Just keep in mind that under certain circumstances, the virus—which stays in your system forever—can flare up again, and that's when you deal with shingles.
Best regards. 🙂
Thanks a ton for the reply!

Hey there
I'm 35 and honestly can't remember if I ever actually had chickenpox as a kid.
Five days ago, I was hanging out near a kid who definitely had it—didn't touch them or anything, just nearby—so I went to get some bloodwork done just to be safe. Here’s what came back:
Analysis result units reference range
Varicella Zoster (VZV) IgM 0.77 cut off 0-0.80
Varicella Zoster (VZV) IgG 331.2 U/ml 0-80
So, am I immune? Did I already deal with this in the past, or am I still in the clear? And more importantly, am I contagious right now?
Thanks for any insight!
