Hey, I was hoping someone could help me make sense of these blood and urine results. It’s for my three-year-old. It all started with a cold—fever hit about 38.5°C for maybe two days. But weirdly, about ten days before the fever or any actual cold symptoms kicked in, he mentioned his legs were hurting once or twice a day. Specifically both knees. He’s still complaining about them, even now that we've started him on Clavulin.
The combination of knee pain and these test results has me worried, but honestly, the bloodwork is what’s really throwing me for a loop. It just doesn't make sense.
My blood work before starting the Clavocina: RBC was sitting at 3.86. After finishing the treatment, it bumped up to 4.20.
White blood cell count came back at 15.1, while the normal range tops out at 13. My doctor's office says it's just a minor elevation, but seeing numbers outside the bracket always feels a little unsettling. Probably just my body fighting off some random bug I picked up at the grocery store last week. Nothing to panic about yet, I suppose.
My monocyte count came back at 15.2H, while the standard range tops out at 13. I'm sitting at 6.9. Just one of those things, I guess.
Lymphocytes at 31.6 (normal range 15-55). The high mark sits at 55.4. Just another day playing doctor with my own bloodwork. I remember back when I was working in Chicago, I once spent an entire afternoon obsessing over a minor lab result that turned out to be nothing more than dehydration. It’s funny how we do that—stare at a number, see a little letter next to it, and immediately start mentally preparing for the worst. Still, seeing those numbers jump around is always a bit of a trip.
CRP 85 (Ref range: 0.1-2.8) 15.7H
MCH is sitting at 29.1, while the lab's range goes up to 29.2. It’s basically right on the edge. Then there's the MCH of 29.6. Just hovering around the line.
RDW 12.2 (range 11.9–16.2). Hgb 11.5.
Everything else on both sets of results looks fine. Just a little note about bacteria and salt levels in the urine, but honestly, everything else is right where it should be.
I’m pretty out of my depth here, but some of these lab results are tripping me up. It doesn't make sense to me how his CRP starts trending back toward the normal range after a round of Augmentin, and his white blood cell count and monocytes are stabilizing, yet the lymphocyte levels, MCH, and RDW look even worse than they did before he started the meds? That massive gap in the lymphocyte numbers specifically is what's really throwing me for a loop.
Blood was drawn on 09/29 and then again on 10/02.
Everything seems fine. Eating, drinking—all normal. Activity levels are steady too. No swelling in the legs or anything like that. Just standard stuff.
I’d love to get some eyes on these results. I'm trying to make sense of these "inconsistencies" and figure out if there's actually a link to this constant knee pain I've been dealing with.
