Why?

Because if you want to print business cards, you need a printer that can handle 80–100 lb cardstock without jamming.

If you force heavy stock through a cheap machine, you'll eventually wreck the paper feeder, and then it won't even pull standard 20 lb office paper correctly.

Essentially, you should get two separate devices. Use one specifically for copying heavy cardstock, and don't try to run your business cards through the same unit you use for everyday printing.

Fair enough. I don't actually need it for thin paper. Can you recommend something specifically geared toward business cards and similar projects that isn't a total ink hog? What specs should I be looking for?

I'm looking to launch a home-based business specializing in printing business cards, restaurant menus, and similar items.

I'm trying to figure out which copier/printer setup would be the best investment for high-volume production.🙂 I want to know exactly what features to prioritize; I don't want to end up buying a machine where the ink costs eat my entire profit margin.🙂
