Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice? in Health ·
Day seven post-op—I’m feeling pretty great... I wouldn't say there's significant pain, though I am still relying on painkillers for now. Last night was actually decent; I managed to sleep through the entire night for the first time since the procedure. Things seem to be looking up, and I think the worst part is finally behind me. I've been sticking to a light diet and taking slow, gentle walks, which feels good. I have my follow-up appointment today, so I'll head in to see what the doctor has to say about everything. Best to everyone

Well, that’s exactly what I was thinking. I ended up taking two weeks of sick leave... hehe, though I'm sure it certainly didn't feel much like a vacation...🙂

It’s been six days since my surgery. It’s painful, I suppose, but manageable... things seem to be getting better every single day. The pain is quite intense, but I try to tell myself it's temporary. I look at it this way: a few days of discomfort is much better than a lifetime of suffering. As for whether the issue will return after the procedure, I really don't want to dwell on that right now. There’s no sense in torturing myself with "what if" scenarios. People deal with heavy illnesses like cancer, where after a long fight, it might go away or it might come back; at that point, you just have to accept what happens. For now, I feel somewhat happy. I can’t quite put the feeling into words. I never realized the pelvic area was essentially the center of everything, haha. Since I just had surgery, I want to laugh, but then it hurts down there. If I cough, it hurts. God forbid I sneeze. If I try to sit down, I can't. Even using the restroom or trying to enjoy a nice meal is difficult because of digestion issues. And sex—pardon me, hehe—is definitely off the table. It truly is the center of existence. From today onward, I think the heart and brain come second to the pelvic region. Hehe. Overall, it’s bearable, and if I were asked again, I would absolutely do it all over. In fact, I regret not doing it much sooner. Regarding returning to my office job, I think I’ll need more time. I won't be working for at least the first two weeks. So, if you are considering the traditional surgical method, I’d suggest planning for at least two weeks of recovery time. I didn't undergo any extensive testing before the operation; it was just standard blood work, a routine checkup with the doctor, and a consultation with the anesthesiologist. That was it. Have a pleasant day, everyone.

Noah Chase4 - I am fairly certain that lifting weights will only end up making things worse... nothing heavy should be lifted at all... maybe some light walking is okay... maintaining hygiene, avoiding alcohol, coffee, and cigarettes is a major rule when dealing with any illness, including this one, though how much anyone can actually tolerate varies... generally speaking, stick to a light diet: fruits, vegetables, yogurt, juices, and plenty of water... your lifestyle habits have to change when you deal with hemorrhoids, and you need to adapt if you want to avoid surgery and get rid of them for good... I dealt with them for ten years before finally having surgery five days ago... it isn't easy, but it is what it is... don't let fear take control of you; everyone deals with hemorrhoids at some point... for some people they cause issues, while for others they don't... regardless, don't let it get into your head or dominate your mindset... you can live a very pleasant life with this if you are careful... diet, hygiene, increased fluid intake to ensure regular bowel movements, light walking, staying relaxed and calm... perhaps you won't even need surgery; many people live quite normally with this condition... provided, of course, that it isn't as painful as you are describing... all the best... regards

feralwolf7 - I had the exact same experience... there really isn't anything that works except surgery. They were internal issues that just spread and broke through to the surface, so all the creams in the world aren't going to touch them. I tried everything. In the end, it had to be surgery. It’s my fifth day post-op now... I'm doing okay, mostly feeling better than yesterday, though I have to admit, the pain is pretty intense.🙂

thanks, Michael Diaz4 ...I’m honestly not sure which method works best, but I just know I don't have them anymore, thank God. It's been three days now and everything seems fine... there's a little stinging and urination is a bit difficult... but it's alright... it can be aggravated if you aren't careful. I am just happy this is all over and behind me, because I really don't want this controlling my life anymore.

This is how it all started for me... I developed hemorrhoids about ten years ago, right after giving birth. It wasn't a huge issue at first; just some occasional stinging and itching here and there. Technically, they aren't separate "internal" or "external" things—they’re all internal, but over time, they can swell outward. Mine eventually reached a point where things were looking quite... irregular. I tried everything—creams, suppositories, oils, various pills—but the situation just kept getting worse. Eventually, I decided I had to go through with surgery using the traditional method. My doctor explained that some parts get treated while others might not, but I went for it anyway. I had the procedure yesterday morning around 11:00 AM. It was done under general anesthesia, and I suppose I should share my experience. General anesthesia isn't actually that scary; you just drift off in a second. It’s a strange sensation, being the first time. When I woke up in the recovery room, I looked around and felt fine—no nausea or vomiting at all. The whole procedure only takes about 45 minutes max, so the anesthesia dose isn't even that heavy. I didn't feel any pain immediately; it only starts later on. As for the pain... well, people say it’s unbearable, but personally, I think I'm managing okay. I wouldn't say I'm sitting here with a massive grin on my face, but I can handle it. They give you plenty of painkillers, so if it hurts, I just take something right away. You stay overnight at the hospital and then you're back home the next day. So, here I am at home. I’ve already had a bowel movement, and honestly, it wasn't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. It was liquid, so there wasn't much straining involved. Urinating is a little difficult, but it's manageable. Now, if I could offer some advice to everyone: hemorrhoids aren't going to just disappear on their own, no matter what you try. They are there to stay unless you act. Surgery is really the only way to go if you don't want your entire world to revolve around your backside. Just do it and stop worrying; it isn't as terrifying as you think. Women tend to handle it better because we're naturally built to endure more pain than men, though I suppose it's mostly the same for everyone. Thank God, I'm finally rid of this nuisance.
