Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice?

Could someone please recommend an effective ointment or cream for hemorrhoids?
I have developed external hemorrhoids, and frankly, it is a nightmare. I am finding it impossible to go about my daily routine normally.
There is pain, and they are quite visible.
Any assistance would be appreciated...
