Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice?
in Health ·
Hello everyone,
I’ve been dealing with chronic hemorrhoid issues for quite some time, though they haven't been quite as aggressive as they used to be. A few years back, I was diagnosed with both internal and external hemorrhoids, Grade II and III. At the time, doctors suggested sclerotherapy or ligation as potential options if things got worse, but I didn't really run into major trouble back then. Occasionally, I’d deal with some bleeding, along with pain and itching, but it was always brief and manageable.
However, over the last couple of months, things have started to escalate. The bleeding has become more frequent, even if it’s still relatively light. Then, about a month ago, one of the hemorrhoids basically "exploded"—it was enough to soak the toilet bowl—and ever since then, I’ve been experiencing heavy bleeding every single time I go to the bathroom. Honestly, it’s been incredibly stressful. I’m constantly tense, I’ve lost my appetite, and my bowel habits have completely gone haywire because I’m so psychologically braced for the pain. My stools aren't regular and tend to be hard, which only makes everything worse, and I'm struggling to eat enough. I went to see a surgeon who confirmed the diagnosis and suggested I be admitted to the hospital, though he wouldn't specify exactly what procedure they planned to perform, so I declined. I had blood work done a few days ago, and while I’m not officially anemic yet, I am right on the borderline. My levels have definitely dropped compared to my tests from just two months ago. Every day, I force myself to sit in a sitz bath with Epsom salts—which is honestly a nightmare, sitting in cold water for 15 minutes is pure torture—and apply Fact cream, but nothing seems to be helping. There is bleeding with every bowel movement; truthfully, for the last three days, the volume has decreased slightly, but it’s still a significant amount. I just picked up some Flogocid, so I’m going to give that a shot.
I would really appreciate some advice. What should I do? Is there any way to manage this without jumping straight into surgery, and how much longer can I realistically keep going like this?
