Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice? in Health ·
Paul Scott74 said:Hi everyone 🙂 I’m dealing with hemorrhoids again. They first popped up back in 2012, but I didn't really think much of them at the time because they just seemed to vanish on their own... now, though, they've been acting up for a few months, feeling like a mix of external and internal issues. It doesn't actually hurt, there's no stinging, and no bleeding or anything like that. My only real issue is when I sit down on the toilet to go; I can feel two little bumps near the anus, but as soon as I stand up, they retreat back inside. I've tried using some suppositories and ointments, including Hadensa, but nothing seems to be making a dent. Does anyone have any advice on what else might work? I saw something online suggesting that potato and olive oil can help—has anyone actually tried that?

If I could offer you one piece of sincere advice, it would be to go get a professional checkup before things escalate. Creams, suppositories, or those home remedies you find online aren't going to solve the root cause; they might offer some temporary relief, but they won't fix the problem for good. You should really schedule an appointment with a proctologist as soon as possible while it's still manageable.
If you want my honest opinion, that is truly the best path forward.
Best,

I understand that THD avoids cutting, but there is still some suturing because they essentially tie off the veins. Personally, I wouldn't recommend the classic surgery to anyone; there are just too many complications, and you often find the problem never truly goes away. If you're looking for options, my advice would be to look into LHP—I can send over a few links to clinics in Washington, D.C. if you'd like. Maybe you could even find something cheaper than $0.00.

I’m also looking into getting surgery, but specifically the THD method, and I'm hoping to get it sorted out as soon as possible. I just need to sit down with my doctor first for a consultation; my proctologist actually dismissed the whole thing as a "scam" and said it wouldn't do anything, so I really want to see if her take on it is any different.

Lately, the issues haven't been happening quite as frequently as they used to, but when they do hit, the discomfort just leaves me feeling physically sick for a while.

I've honestly reached my limit with all of this, which is why I'm so set on moving forward with the procedure.

I'm with you there. I was originally leaning toward the THD method too, but my doctor insisted that the LHP laser method is the superior choice because the recovery time is significantly shorter—there are no incisions or stitches, no bleeding, and you start seeing results within just a few days. I'll be having mine done here in Germany, but I noticed that the LHP method is also available at private clinics in Washington, D.C., for about $4000. If you're paying for THD yourself, my honest advice would be to go with the LHP laser instead. Please feel free to reach out if you have more questions; I truly understand what you're going through. crimsonwolf26 said:Hi everyone, a few days ago—this past Friday, actually—I started dealing with some hemorrhoid issues. They were probably there before, but there was never any pain, just external swelling. This time, however, the pain was intense. I barely slept, stayed inside my house the whole time, and even walking felt incredibly uncomfortable. For the last couple of days, I've been sticking to soup and apples and taking frequent showers in relatively cold water... this morning, I finally feel a bit better; the pain has subsided slightly, and I'm slowly getting back to my routine. I haven't seen a doctor or stopped by a pharmacy yet, and I'm honestly not sure if I should go. I'm mostly curious about how you all manage your diet; I read somewhere that high-fiber foods, whole grains, and legumes are key... how strictly do you follow those guidelines, and how much variety do you get? Personally, I wouldn't say I've ever been a huge fan of junk food or alcohol...

Hey there. While adjusting your diet and all that is definitely important, it won't make the problem just vanish on its own. You really should head to a doctor and discuss next steps with them; trust me, you don't want this to spiral out of control, because once it gets serious, that's when the real misery starts. Best of luck.

steelcyclist3 said:Come on guys, you can't be serious.😲 About a week ago, I ended up with an external hemorrhoid from straining—I think it was probably triggered by a bad coughing fit. It’s been itching like crazy lately, so I tried some over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream, and now I’ve actually been using lard, which seems to help the itching quite a bit. But then I read here on the forum that this isn't going away and that I'll definitely need surgery? Are you guys actually kidding me?

Hey there. Honestly, don't believe everything you read online. My best advice is to head straight to a doctor right away. If you catch it early—meaning if we're talking about first-degree hemorrhoids—it can often be treated easily with injections, like sclerotherapy. Just don't fall into the trap of thinking it'll just vanish if you use some cream, suppositories, or herbal teas; the whole situation can get pretty messy really fast. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Best.

Benjamin Price4 said:Hi everyone,

I wanted to reach out because I have a question on my mind.

About four years ago, I noticed some blood in my stool; sometimes it was just a tiny bit, and other times it seemed more significant, which really spooked me, so I went ahead and scheduled a sigmoidoscopy.

Everything came back completely clear during that exam, and the issue vanished entirely, but now it has started happening again. I'm wondering what could be causing this recurrence, and does anyone have advice on how to prevent it?

Best,

Hey there. You should really find a reputable proctologist to give you an exam, because seeing blood in your stool is definitely something you shouldn't ignore.

Paul Campbell10 said:Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner; I haven't been checking this thread much lately, just popping in here and there..

Anyway, tomorrow marks six months since my surgery, and I honestly can't say there's a single issue left; I've recovered completely and am beyond satisfied with everything. To be perfectly honest, I've already forgotten about those problems that used to plague me for so many years..

I think I touched on my recovery in some earlier posts, noting that the initial pain lasted about two days, and within ten to fifteen days, I felt almost entirely back to normal. I'm already playing tennis recreationally and going for runs, activities I actually got back to about twenty days ago, if not even sooner..

If there is anything else you want to know, please feel free to ask for any details, even though I've tried to be quite thorough in describing my recovery process.. but looking back after half a year, I can confidently confirm that everything is absolutely great on my end..

. No worries at all, and thanks for getting back to me. I've decided to go through with the LHP laser procedure; my appointment is set for November 22nd, and I'm just counting down the days until I can finally leave these hemorrhoids behind. I've been going through absolute hell for the last ten years, so I'm relieved it's finally ending. I'll post an update on the forum once it's done, and I'd suggest anyone dealing with this to see a doctor immediately, because things can spiral out of control really fast. Thanks again, and I'm truly happy to hear you're finally free from such a HUGE burden.

I was wondering if anyone here who has gone through the HAL RAR procedure could share their experience, specifically regarding how it went and which facility you used for the surgery. I'd really appreciate any insight you can offer.

Hi there, would you mind sharing a bit about how things have been going now that a few months have passed since your surgery? I'm curious if you're feeling satisfied with the results. Thanks.
Paul Campbell10 said:I dealt with that same bloating and that constant urge to go right after the procedure myself... it all lasted about four or five days before things settled down, and honestly, the pain was gone in less than two days.

It’s been a month since my surgery now, and to be honest, I’ve almost completely forgotten about those initial discomforts. About ten days in, I finally felt like I was over the hump and everything was back to normal.

I have a follow-up appointment in ten days, and I’m just hoping the doctor confirms that everything healed up perfectly.

Paul Campbell10 said:Alright, I think we can close the book on that debate. To be honest, I was actually more terrified of the surgery itself than the recovery, and man, was I wrong. I've heard stories about people waking up mid-procedure or feeling pain even under anesthesia, but I won't dwell on that because everyone’s experience is different.

Unfortunately, I have my doubts about anyone finding a truly painless recovery after hemorrhoid surgery. All those clinics that advertise "painless" procedures are usually just trying to attract patients, but that rarely matches reality. From what I understand, THD or DG HAL is one of the most successful and least painful methods available, but personally, my first day and a half of recovery were quite intense. Maybe there are some folks who genuinely sailed through without any discomfort, but I spent most of that time just praying to God that the pain wouldn't last longer than a few days.

If someone were to ask me today if I'd go through it all over again if they came back, I'd tell them I'd schedule the operation within a week, regardless of knowing exactly what lies ahead.
