Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice?

Come on guys, quit pulling my leg here😲 About a week ago, I ended up with an external hemorrhoid because I was straining—basically from this brutal coughing fit, which I’m pretty sure is what triggered the whole mess. It’s been itching like crazy lately, so I tried some over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream, but honestly, I switched to just using some lard, and the itching has calmed down a ton. But now I'm scrolling through this forum and reading people say this thing isn't going anywhere and that I’m looking at surgery? Are you actually kidding me right now?
