I didn't even have to wait that long myself... maybe a month and a half. I actually could've gone sooner, but I had some personal stuff going on that kept me from booking it right away.
Honestly, your best bet is just to give your doctor a call and see what they have to say about it. It’s definitely not a smart move to start messing around with antibiotics on your own without a prescription.
It’s just not true that every ENT out there acts like that. I mean, I went in for septoplasty and they ended up trimming a hump while they were at it, then basically broke and reset the bone. There wasn't even any grinding involved.

Yeah, basically... I went to my doctor to get a referral and headed over to the Mayo Clinic for an exam (you don't really need an appointment for that part). An ENT checked me out there and ordered a sinus CT scan, and after that, we worked out a plan for surgery. I ended up getting it done within a month of our first talk. While we were planning everything, I asked if he could also fix a little bump on my nose, and he was totally down to do it. I actually just took my splint off today! I'm feeling pretty good about it—even though things are still super swollen, I think it’s gonna look awesome.
Honestly, I have no clue... I just know they tend to charge a premium if they're fixing a deviation for you. It doesn't hurt to just ask, right? 🙂

Thought I’d jump in here too. So, if you don't actually have a deviated septum, you can still get the work done, but you'll be footing the whole bill yourself. But if you *do* have one? Then they can usually toss in the aesthetic stuff without any hassle—though, honestly, it just depends on the surgeon whether they charge extra or not (if they do, it shouldn't be more than $3,000, $1333). I actually just had my septum surgery seven days ago, and my doctor ended up fixing the bump on my nose while he was at it, totally for free. Just a heads-up though: make sure you ask him when you're scheduling everything. If you don't bring it up, they aren't going to touch anything outside of what was originally agreed upon, because if they start messing with the external look of your nose, they have to change your medical diagnosis.
