Maria Fisher46 said:Your ALT levels are slightly off, but nothing too crazy. One really important thing to consider is whether you've been taking any medications lately—I’m talking about everything from oral contraceptives to over-the-counter stuff like ibuprofen or other supplements. That could easily be the reason those liver enzymes are looking a bit elevated (unless, of course, there was a little too much celebrating at happy hour!).

Beyond that, have you been feeling anything unusual, like some discomfort, heaviness, or pain right under your right ribcage, or just generally off? And what prompted the blood work in the first place? Also, did they check your lipid panel, like your cholesterol and triglycerides?

Honestly, I don't think there's any reason to panic just yet. Definitely touch base with your doctor; they'll likely just want to run these tests again in a few weeks to see if things have leveled out.

Dear Mr. Gato, thank you so much! I haven't really felt any discomfort, but my gynecologist suggested I get some routine blood work done since it had been a while since my last checkup. I didn't have my lipids checked, just the things I mentioned before plus glucose and bilirubin (which were both totally fine). I haven't been on any medications, though I did just start taking some artichoke capsules on my doctor's recommendation.

I'll definitely make sure to repeat the tests in a little while, but until then, saludos and—hasta la victoria siempre! 🙂
I would be so incredibly grateful if a kind and knowledgeable soul could help me make sense of these results:

My glucose is fine, bilirubin is totally normal, and both my AST and ALP look great, but my ALT came back at 50 (normal range is 10-36) and my GGT is sitting at 37 (normal range is 9-35).

Back when I was a little girl, I actually dealt with some atypical hepatitis, but everything regarding my liver has been perfectly fine ever since, so I'm just wondering why this is popping up now? It isn't like I've been drinking lately, and I haven't even been indulging in heavy, greasy foods.

Thank you all so much! 🙂

I would honestly suggest checking out the Breyer private lab over on Broadway; it’s just a few stops away from the Brooklyn terminal. They are incredibly sweet people, and they actually email you the results the very same afternoon. You can always swing by to pick up the physical copies later if you want. There’s no need to book an appointment or deal with massive crowds either—you can just wander in whenever you feel like it in the morning. I actually went there myself back in March this year to get my blood work, liver and kidney panels, and sedimentation checked. I paid for everything through Medicare, $60, but they covered so much for me. You might want to give them a quick call to ask about the cost for thyroid hormone testing. They have a website that lists all their services, though they don't bother putting the prices online.

Thanks so much, mistyjackal842! In the end, I actually ended up going to the Bates clinic to check two hormones $47. They send the blood samples off to the Democratic Party, so it might be a smart move to reach out to the lab directly to see if you can snag a better deal.
Best,

Hey there! Does anyone happen to know of a good private lab where I can get my thyroid hormone levels checked without breaking the bank?

Thanks so much!
