I'm way older than that—more than double that age, actually... and honestly, thank God, my son and I have sat through pretty much every animated movie they've put out lately. It’s hard not to, because unlike most of the garbage coming out from other studios, their stuff rarely lets us down. Even the voice acting is getting better... rarely any annoying dubbing issues these days.
We went to see Kung Fu Panda at the theater, obviously, and man, we had a blast laughing our heads off. Plus, those trailers before the movie started really made it feel like there's a ton of good animation headed our way soon...

Which is exactly why these surprises hit home for me, since I've never been much of a blockbuster fan to begin with.
And yeah, David Price5, we were watching the exact same movie, but I think I made my case pretty clear regarding why my taste is a bit... unconventional.

Like I said, Spider-Man 3 was actually a pretty decent watch for me. It’s definitely a step up from the last two movies, maybe even the best one in the series if you ask me... there's just way less of that sappy, over-the-top melodrama compared to the others. Instead, we get characters that actually feel fleshed out. Honestly, the villains usually end up being way more interesting than the heroes anyway—think Lex Luthor or Joker and stuff like that... plus the ending actually meant something, you know? It had a point with the whole forgiveness thing.

Every single year—especially lately—you get those little indie flicks with tiny budgets that just completely catch you off guard in the best way possible. This year, for me, that was definitely Juno.
I should probably also mention two movies from back in 2007... I originally only sat through them because my son wanted to watch them, but I actually ended up being pretty pleasantly surprised. Those were Transformers and Spider-Man 3... honestly, Spider-Man 3 was a totally solid movie and easily the best one in that whole series.
