My mom just got her CT scan results back. I’m going to paste them here, so if anyone understands this stuff, could you please help me make sense of it? Thanks in advance!
By way of background, my mom was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the ventricle (stomach cancer) last October and underwent surgery. They removed her entire stomach, part of her esophagus, her appendix, and her gallbladder. She went through four aggressive rounds of chemo, but she just couldn't bounce back. Her blood work hasn't stabilized at all. Back in May, a PET/CT scan in New York City was actually a miracle—it showed the disease was in remission. Her oncologist even gave her the green light to just relax and take it easy all summer. But after seven days, she started having these recurring pains that lasted throughout the whole summer. Her primary care doctor is looking into potential inflammation, though he's being very careful about making any predictions. He's passing the ball back to the oncologist, whom we'll likely have to visit again on the 14th if we don't get lucky. In the meantime, even though I've tried to read up on this myself, I would really appreciate it if someone could explain these findings in more detail. Thank you again!
"Status post total gastrectomy; no evidence of local recurrence.
The liver shows homogeneous texture with no focal lesions. Status post cholecystectomy.
Intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts are not dilated.
The pancreas is of normal size and texture; no focal lesions detected.
The kidneys show weaker post-contrast opacification along with cystic lesions.
Bilateral dilation of the collecting system is noted; ureters are of normal diameter, but the walls appear hyperemic—radiological signs of functional impairment; laboratory follow-up is recommended.
The uterus shows normal morphology.
There is diffuse thickening of the colon wall in the area of the hepatic flexure.
A small amount of free fluid is visible in the upper abdomen, perilineally, and perihepatically.
Adjacent to the aorta, from the height of the mesenteric artery origin down to the renal arteries, there is a soft mass, likely representing lymphatic
infection, measuring up to 12mm. At the root of the mesentery, intraperitoneally, alongside the pelvic vessels and bilaterally in the inguinal region, enlarged lymph nodes up to 12mm are visible."
That’s what it says. Plus, I know her creatinine levels have been spiking like crazy. We're getting a full blood panel and creatinine clearance tests done in the next few days.
