I was really hoping we might have some on-call doctors around to provide quick insights instead of having to deal with grumpy clinic staff. Still, I’m going to put my question out there! And Silly wanted to know (for her mom) what high iron levels actually signify. As for me, my iron level came back at 32.1 (ref range 8-30), and besides that, my AST is 31 (8-30) and my basophils are 1.2 (0-1). My urinalysis shows leukocytes at 3-6 (0-2), erythrocytes at 1-2 (0-2), and squamous epithelial cells at 15-17 (0-1). I’ve included the reference ranges in parentheses here.
If anyone has any idea what this means, please let me know!

Look, I’m no medical professional, but I’ve dealt with liver issues before where both my iron and liver enzymes were elevated, so I’ll try to help with that first part. The liver plays such a massive role in iron metabolism because that’s primarily where the body stores this metal. When liver function is compromised, the body struggles to clear iron properly—it essentially builds up there and causes damage.
Since your ALT is also slightly elevated (that enzyme is closely tied to liver function), maybe you should start by looking into your liver health? 🤷
