I was driving home from work when my car just died on me—total idiot machine. Anyway, I managed to track down two new bolts that actually fit the thread, so I’m going to tear this whole thing apart and get the LC95 back in there.
I’ve had this first one for about eighteen months, but I am absolutely returning the second one. 1. Does the refund process actually work under these new consumer protection laws regarding the two-week window? 2. Which model should I go with instead, since they don't carry the LC-CC-120 at Walmart?
Back again with my temperature grievances, One of the screws on the cooler stripped out and is loose, so it keeps bumping against the processor, though it isn't clamped down tight. I wasn't about to be lazy, so I headed down to Best Buy yesterday and picked up $67 a Zalman CNPS5X. The temperatures are excellent—they don't even cross 55°C after ten minutes of OCCT testing—but the cooler itself is unnervingly loud. The box claims 20-32 dB and boasts "ultra quiet" performance in five different places, yet here we are. It’s spinning at 2150 RPM and sounds like a jet engine taking off, which is a problem because a silent PC is a priority for me. My previous LC 95 cooler was genuinely silent. I plan to take this back to the store and swap it for something else. Should I look for a specific model, or just demand a refund and fix the screw on my old one?
I applied just enough to cover it, then ran a test at 185°F where I spread it on like Nutella—to use a bit of hyperbole—and now we’re sitting at 144°F.
I just applied it by hand with my finger. Honestly, I think that might be the issue; whenever I tried using a single grain of rice to spread the thermal paste and let the cooler's base flatten it out, it would always overheat. I'll probably have to try using one of those plastic spreaders instead.
The CPU stays steady at 65°C, while the GPU hits a solid 3415MHz and maintains 60fps during gameplay. However, once I minimize the window, the GPU clock speed drops to about 800-1000mhz and the frame rate tanks to 15-20 fps.
Last time, we fixed it by leaving one tiny corner of the CPU ungreased, which caused it to overheat; once everything was properly coated, it ran fine. If I recall correctly, the thermal paste was replaced about three weeks ago. The cooler is an LC Power—I can't be bothered to hunt down the exact model right now, so I just listed the price; I believe it's an LL 95 or something similar. Would it make sense to swap out the case and add another cooler? I'll run these tests and let you know.
Core 2 Quad, 8GB RAM, GTX 750 Ti, 550W power supply After about thirty minutes of playing GTA or Assassin's Creed Unity, the stuttering becomes unbearable. I suspect overheating is the culprit. The CPU is running a $50 cooler, the GPU is using its stock heatsink, and everything is housed in a massive, open-sided metal case. My assumption is that I need a new chassis with decent airflow and perhaps a more robust cooler for the graphics card, though losing the warranty is a frustrating prospect. Please offer some suggestions, provided they are budget-friendly. Thanks
Let's put it this way: My Fortron unit is about two years old, just like everything else in this rig. The CPU cooler is performing fine, and I personally reapply thermal paste to both the GPU and the processor every three or four weeks. There isn't a single speck of dust in this case; as I mentioned before, I don't even own a vacuum cleaner. I am constantly monitoring the system. The motherboard specifies HyperTransport 3.0. If there is anything else you need to know, feel free to ask. I think I'll just wipe my C: drive and call it a day.
I’ve added an aftermarket cooler, and while the temps look fine on paper, the system is still acting up. I suspect a clean OS reinstall would fix everything, but honestly, I just don't have the energy for such a massive undertaking right now.
Here is my current setup: AMD Phenom II 965 black 8GB RAM Fortron 550W Motherboard unknown I previously used an HD 4870, but I swapped it out for an XFX R9 270. After installing the 14.12 Omega drivers, the only noticeable change is that I can finally run DirectX 9 titles, though my FPS in older games has actually dropped. What is the solution here? Thanks
