So, here’s the breakdown for anyone wondering about getting nose surgery through insurance.

It’s been two months since my procedure.
I am seriously, seriously happy with it!🙂
Had the surgery at a major hospital in Chicago, went with Dr. Miller’s recommendation—the nurses on the floor were amazing. He fixed my deviated septum and did a little bit of cosmetic work too. The consultations were pretty brief, but I guess when insurance is footing the bill, the guy doesn't have much time to chat... I just prayed, submitted everything, and hoped for the best. And honestly? It turned out great.🙂
I stayed in the recovery ward for about five days, which was awesome because you get constant care, swelling injections (seriously, how would you even survive without them?!🙄), pain meds, and antibiotics. The tampon was out after a few days, bruises faded by week two, and my nose is still a bit numb. I’m just cleaning it occasionally with spray or saline. The swelling goes down a little more every day, though the final look won't really settle for another 3 to 6 months. Right now, it's just feeling a bit numb...

Anyway, hope this helps someone... I wanted to hear other people's hospital experiences, so I figured I'd share mine. One little side note: don't go in expecting perfection right away, or you'll be disappointed.😉
Richard Parker3 said:I'm in the exact same boat as Laura Lee29 and feralbadger102. I keep scrolling through this forum and just can't make a move... constantly putting it off month after month. What’s the actual process if I want to go through insurance? Can I just pick a doctor I actually like and then ask my primary care physician for a referral, or do I have to head into town first to see an ENT 🙂 to get a recommendation or whatever? For anyone who's already done this, could you share how it went? I really don't want to end up under the knife of some hack when I was looking for someone else...

First thing is you gotta get a referral from your GP to see an ENT...
then you call the hospital and book an appointment with whichever specialist you want; once you're actually in the exam room, that's when you hash out the details for the procedure—like fixing the deviation plus the cosmetic stuff 🙂
I posted about this on the "septum deviation" thread yesterday, so I figured I’d drop it here too. If anyone’s actually gone through surgery at Mayo Clinic—and maybe only read a couple of comments—please, leave some advice or tell me how it went.🙏

I’ve scrolled through every single post on both threads... honestly, I’m right on the edge of just running away from it all.😉

Diagnosis is a deviated septum. After four years of struggling to breathe and now two years of waking up constantly because I'm mouth-breathing... yeah, I finally decided to go for the surgery.
The plan is to get a rhinoplasty done alongside the septum correction. I'm pretty nervous since this is my first time ever going under the knife.
Scheduled for March at Mayo Clinic.
Hey everyone... hope you're all doing good. Fingers crossed for a nice nose.🙂

maybe try hitting up your primary care doc... get them to write you a referral for a deviated septum so you can get it sorted at the hospital through your insurance.
my doctor told me that hardly anyone actually has clear nasal passages anyway...😉
