Anonymous said:I think I see where you're coming from, I just might not have been clear enough!

Look, this isn't about social isolation if everyone else still has the chance to chime in and help out when needed. It’s not that people wouldn't want to be part of society or find others like themselves—they just don't necessarily need it to be an exclusive club. If someone with a disability can't find a partner in their everyday surroundings, they'll look for one among people who understand them, and places like this are perfect for that. Clearer now?

👍
Exactly. I'll say it again: this won't be some gated community where they hang out exclusively and get banned from other forums, cutting themselves off from the rest of the population. This would be a space focused on disability issues and everything related to that—a place where anyone interested can participate, whether they have specific needs, know a lot about the subject, or just want to learn how to solve certain problems. It's not just for people with disabilities. Honestly, it would be much more useful than many of the sub-forums we already have here.
As for the fact that a forum already exists... there are tons of specialized forums out there for all sorts of topics... so what? This is a general-interest forum, so I think this topic deserves its own corner too.
Now, whether that sub-forum would actually get traffic or if people would even care, I couldn't tell you.
Maybe eventually... once people realize it's there.

Bottom line, I think it would be very helpful. My only worry is those "experts" who can't resist jumping into every single debate just to start an argument... that's always the issue.

Let’s be real, doctors don't know everything. In fact, there's a lot they're surprisingly clueless about. Mine didn't even know how to properly remove a tick or what the potential fallout could be.
If medical professionals actually had all the answers, people probably wouldn't be traveling across the country looking for second opinions.
There's a massive difference between a doctor and someone who actually lives this every day—people with real-world experience who are deep in the trenches.
I remember seeing a post on a forum where a mom was asking for recommendations on sensory integration therapy for her kid. It was clear her pediatrician hadn't given her a single lead on it. I'm no MD, but even I knew more than that.

Maybe you’re misinterpreting what this "corner" is actually for. It sounds like you think it’s some exclusive club just for people with disabilities who aren't welcome anywhere else. 🙂
No way!!!!!!!!

The disability corner wouldn't be restricted to just those living with a disability. It would include anyone connected to the community—parents, specialists, or anyone with relevant knowledge looking to lend a hand. As someone working in this field, I’d actually be one of the first people visiting this forum to offer support.
We aren't here to talk about romance or sex; there are plenty of other places for that. There are massive, real-world challenges surrounding disability, and many people simply don't know where to turn... they often find themselves hitting dead ends everywhere they go.
Take new moms with a child facing a disability, for example. They have endless questions, yet doctors often provide little to no guidance. You see it all the time.
Questions like: when should therapy start? Which type of therapy is best? Where can we find these services? Who are the top experts in the field? There's a mountain of uncertainty.
Honestly, providing practical advice to someone navigating a disability is far more useful than listening to people debate which dating app to use tonight.

And honestly, maybe we shouldn't even call it the "disability corner." That might make it sound like it's closed off to everyone else. Maybe something like "Disability Support" or something similar would work better.

Oh, I see. So pregnant women, college students, and high schoolers don't get an equal seat at the table in these debates, so they get their own special PDF instead?

lol...Works everywhere... actually, let's roll it out as widely as possible so we can get it done sooner rather than later...
See? Not a bad idea.

The title pretty much says it all... everyone’s being mentioned—men, women, kids, pregnant ladies... I honestly think people with disabilities deserve a seat at the table here, too.
I wasn't quite sure what kind of thread to start, so here we go.🙂
