Leg lengthening surgery in Health ·
Kate Wilson7 said:I heard that everyone who undergoes that procedure deals with chronic pain for the rest of their lives... is that actually true?

I'm really not sure... I would just love to hear from someone who has actually gone through the surgery itself...div>

I think they have the best doctors there. He's dealt with this since he was little, he was born with one leg shorter than the other. Back then it was about 4-5 cm, but now it's pretty much fine. Just so you know how it works, they split the bone into two pieces. They run three wires through each part that attach to rings, and then those two rings are connected by screws that can be adjusted to stretch them. Then, the gap created between the two separated bones eventually heals into solid bone.
The pain is intense, and the wounds need daily cleaning. But his discrepancy wasn't that bad...
Once they lengthen the leg, I think he'll have the fixator on for about a month, and then they just put him in a cast and that's it... Nothing too scary, he'll be like new in a few months... take care

Hi... thank you so much for reaching out... thank you... I feel a little better now...!!!!
best regards

I was wondering if anyone here has gone through leg lengthening surgery, or perhaps knows someone who has... I’d be so grateful to hear about those experiences, because I haven't been able to find much information online... My boyfriend is 21, and his left leg is shorter by at least 2.5cm, maybe even more. It started during puberty, just like so many other issues... Because of the discrepancy, his spine and hips—especially the right side since he leans on it so much—are really suffering... He's currently seeing Dr. Matek for evaluations... They recommended surgery to prevent his spinal condition from getting even worse... You might have heard stories about people with dwarfism undergoing these procedures to increase their height, and apparently, they are incredibly painful... Since his leg is short by 2.5cm, they would cut the bone in his shin, apply a fixator, and then gradually stretch the bone over about 20 days, a millimeter at a time... The pain involved would be immense😢.....!!!!!!

I would truly appreciate it if anyone with similar experiences could reach out to me!!
thank you in advance!!
best regards!!!
