For the last two years, you can actually hold a conversation while the cars scream past you. Now? It’s pointless.
Every time I get tired of this, I imagine what it would be like if I showed up at Indianapolis, ran straight toward the fence on the start-finish straight, leaned against the wire, closed my eyes, and shouted to myself: "Alright, let it rip."
Then my friends, who would be there at the race with me, would just give me this blank look like, "What the hell is wrong with you?".
Then a Formula 1 car flies by at roughly 218 miles/h, and a second later, that sound hits you right in the gut. That noise kills your entire body. Every hair on your head stands up; the chills run through you, and my whole body shakes like an addict going through withdrawal... and that’s just how the first free practice feels.
I’d need two hours of lying in the grass under a tree just to recover before heading back to therapy. With that kind of therapy, I could survive six months of winter, then head to either the Circuit of the Americas or Monaco in the spring.
Ever since this pathetic sound arrived, the therapy doesn't work anymore...
It’s a good thing we have Indy NXT or IndyCar, because you can actually enjoy their engine notes. Modern Formula 1 is a complete joke.
Oh, right... I remember my first live Formula 1 baptism. Indianapolis. I was crossing that little bridge before the Ascari chicane when two cars tore past one after the other right underneath me. Every single hair on my body vanished. The impact hit me so hard I didn't even know where I was standing.
