Windows Vista vs. XP in Software ·
If you ask me, you should probably move all your vital files over to a DVD, a thumb drive, or—if you're feeling really old school—some floppy disks before you start messing around with different versions of Windows. There's a massive chance that something could go sideways, and you'll end up losing both your data and your OS in one fell swoop! Honestly, the smartest and most foolproof way to handle this is to back everything up, wipe both your C and D drives completely, and then perform a nice, clean installation of that much-coveted Vista you've been eyeing. Now, if you just want to play around and experiment, then sure, Vista is fine, but for any kind of actual, serious work? I’m telling you, stick with Windows XP Professional.
