Robin Miller4 said:I don't even care... like, shouldn't I be showering all summer long?? If I feel like it, I'm doing it. I seriously don't get you guys—for real... tons of girls just like me shower every single day, and yeah, they still get their period totally normally:S😕

Don't listen to any of that nonsense. It is NOT true that you can't wash your hair when you're on your period!!!! That's just straight-up garbage. I've been washing my hair whenever I want for 12 years now and thank Bog, it always looks fine... and the same goes for showering!! Just shower and enjoy yourself. The only thing is, once you actually start bleeding, maybe skip the full soak for the first three days, but you can definitely take a quick rinse at home and call it a day..

Jessica Richardson76 said:it's like this dull ache in my pelvic area... plus I feel like I have to pee constantly. I'm thinking maybe it's just some flu thing, but I honestly don't get why I've got this pinkish or brown discharge every single day... please tell me it won't last the whole month until my next period, grrrr, because I am officially done playing around like this.

Look, if you're still hurting during sex and dealing with that ovary pain, you might be looking at an infection or inflammation down there—you really ought to hit up a doctor. It’s fine, you'll just grab some meds and it'll clear right up. And yeah, seriously, stay away from the bedroom while this is happening; it's definitely not a good idea, at least for the first three days.

Jessica Richardson76 said:so I'm wondering... is it actually possible that my period just stopped because I was swimming for like an hour and a half? Like, maybe I caught a chill or something, and now I'm dealing with this pain during sex

Yeah, it’s totally possible you caught a chill—especially if that water was sitting below 75 degrees... and honestly, if that pain during sex is really messing with you, you should probably just go see a doctor. I know for a fact that when you get some kind of inflammation or infection in your ovaries, sex can be pretty painful... are you feeling any specific ache around the ovary area?

Honestly, I don't think there's any reason to stress out or overthink things unless something actually weird happens—like, you know, if you start seeing massive bleeding in the middle of your cycle or something serious like that.

Man, mine has always been heavy since I can remember—well, since I started being sexually active a few years back.😁 Everything else seems fine, it's just that I feel lightheaded more often and I've always dealt with being anemic.😁

Casey Phillips18 said:It could be from swimming, or just the change in weather... a friend told me a few years back she was at the beach and went swimming, and her period got all messed up for a bit... I don't know 🤷 I always swim and I never have any issues..

I've got a question about tampons.. I'll probably need them when I'm at the coast, and apparently you're supposed to change them right after getting out of the water, so I'm wondering if that's actually necessary? Because the beach is packed, there isn't really anywhere to go to swap them out every five minutes.

After every single time you get out of the water?? hmm, that's basically impossible.. I don't know, my friends just swim normally with a tampon and change it like they would any other time—basically whenever they feel like it, depending on how heavy the flow is, and honestly, it might even lighten up while you're swimming. I don't really have personal experience swimming while on my period because my flow is way too heavy for that, so I'm just passing along what I hear from other girls, which is mostly that you just swim like normal when you start, just maybe don't spend too much time baking in the sun..🤷

Jessica Richardson76 said:I want to know what you guys think and if I should even be worried about my "problem"!

So basically, my boyfriend and I hooked up on the first day of my period—which actually showed up two days early, by the way—and everything seemed fine, except for one thing. After we were done, my period was super light. Since we were away on vacation, I decided not to miss out on swimming and went in the water once. Then for a whole week, my period was just really weak. I had the usual cramps, but the flow was just... off.

Is it possible my cycle got messed up because of the sex and the swimming? I mean, it was my first time swimming while on my period, and I'm pretty sensitive.

Also, one more thing: a week after this "period" ended, we had sex again and it hurt like crazy, and then I saw some pink spotting on my underwear right after.

Look, it’s totally normal for your flow to lighten up when you go swimming—the cold water slows things down and reduces the bleeding. Personally, I never swim when I'm on my period because mine is always super heavy and I don't feel like attracting any sharks,😁 but I've heard from friends that it can even stop completely for a bit when you're in cold water, only to come back to "normal" later... so honestly, don't sweat that part. As for the pain during sex, man, I can't tell you for sure, but if that keeps happening, you seriously need to see a doctor because that shouldn't be happening.

Laura Mendoza said:Oh, please—spare me the unsolicited advice. If there’s anything you shouldn't be doing while on your period, it’s hitting the beach and lounging in the sun, especially those first three days. Seriously, the heat dilates your blood vessels, which can make your flow way heavier (it’s kind of why people say you shouldn't wash your hair during your period—because you end up spending way too much time under that warm water)—plus, you get the whole sun headache thing from being out in the heat. And yeah, sure, because changing a tampon after every single dip in the ocean is just *so* convenient since every beach apparently has a perfectly clean restroom and a nice little changing stall waiting for you. Yeah, right. 🙄
She’ll have way fewer issues if she just pushes the trip back instead of dealing with all that at the beach.

Look, I wash my hair regularly when I'm on my period and I haven't dropped dead from it, so those are just old wives' tales... and yeah, obviously stay in the shade, but a little swim in the ocean isn't going to kill you—as long as the water isn't boiling, which it shouldn't be anyway. Of course, that's assuming you don't have a massive, heavy flow like I do...🙄

So, I’ve got this one massive issue and I honestly don't know if anyone else has vented about this here yet, but please—if you’re dealing with something similar or actually know what's going on, hit me up.. basically, for the last few years, my period has been absolutely brutal. It’s super heavy, like, it completely wrecks my ability to do anything normal for the first two days of the month (even though my cycle is pretty regular otherwise). The real nightmare is that during those first 48 hours, I'm basically housebound. Seriously, I can put a pad on and fifteen minutes later it’s already soaked through—and I always go with the biggest ones available.. I end up spending half my life stuck on the toilet, it’s disgusting. One time I actually went to an exam and ended up standing up from my chair covered in blood.. 😲.. obviously, because of this constant bleeding, I'm always anemic and I just avoid doing anything at all during those days. I have to bail on trips and outings if they happen to fall then.. 🤷.. someone please help me find a cure!

Megan Grant73 said:My period is two weeks late, which is wild because it’s usually been super regular for years now. Any idea what could be causing this? Just to be clear—I don't have any underlying health issues, I'm definitely not pregnant, and I haven't even started some crazy strict diet lately.

So, a friend of mine used to deal with her cycle being totally off all the time for basically no reason, and this one woman told her to just switch up her pads—like, change the actual brand or type she was using... and once she did, everything suddenly went back to normal. It sounds totally bizarre, but it worked for her. Also, if you're dealing with massive amounts of stress, it can honestly happen where you're late for like three months straight.

steeleagle152 said:Hey everyone, quick question—is there any way to "delay" my period? I’ve got a trip to Miami planned for the 15th, but my cycle is supposed to kick in on the 18th. Can I push it back somehow? If so, how does it work, and are there any nasty side effects? I’ve never had to deal with this before, so I'm totally lost. ☕
Thanks!

Does it always hit you right on schedule?? Maybe you're just having some luck and it might be late this time anyway🙂...honestly, messing with your hormones using birth control just to delay things isn't healthy, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, even though I know people do it... also, do you usually get heavy flows or bad cramps?? if not, I'd honestly say don't even stress about it—if it starts while you're away, just pop in a tampon and enjoy yourself. It's not gonna kill you to swim in the ocean, just don't overdo it, just chill in the water and relax..🙂
