Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
Linda Wright31 said:I went in for my OB-GYN exam, including a Pap smear and a vaginal ultrasound. My Pap came back normal, though I’ve been dealing with some pretty intense ovarian inflammation lately, so I've been on two different antibiotics plus using vaginal suppositories—which I think I'm still finishing up. I wasn't quite sure which thread this belonged in, but this felt like the right spot. Basically, my period isn't due for another five or six days, but I started seeing this brownish discharge today—it was slightly clumpy at first, then turned a bit more yellowish-brown tonight. Plus, I have this constant aching feeling like my period is going to hit any second... what do you guys think could be going on?

Maybe it's just a reaction to those suppositories.

Time will tell how this all plays out. Honestly, I’m just relieved it isn't anything catastrophic.

Linda Wright31 said:I’m feeling a bit anxious... though looking back, I probably overreacted. I went to a private clinic today for a Pap smear, an exam, and a pelvic ultrasound. They found some inflammation in my ovaries, which likely explains all the pain and discomfort I've been dealing with. Since I'm ovulating today, the pain is actually hitting harder. Also, there was a little spotting after the exams. Is that normal?

Since you're ovulating, that light bleeding could easily be related to the hormonal shift. Did they prescribe anything specific for the inflammation, or maybe suggest some herbal tea? What was the doctor's take on the whole thing?

Linda Wright31 said:Since I've been hunting for a decent gynecologist, the only one available isn't free until next Thursday. I'll probably lose my mind by then, though I'm already feeling a little

A little what?

Linda Wright31 said:I didn't go yet; I tried to book a private appointment with a specialist, but word on the street was she wasn't any good, so I backed out. I finally tracked down a solid OB-GYN and plan to schedule something tomorrow, hopefully getting in sometime this week. On top of everything, I had some intense pain near my ovaries today that shot right through to my lower back and down my right leg, though it’s settling down now. My spotting has completely stopped—no blood, no discharge, just nothing. It feels like nothing is happening, except I'm running to the bathroom constantly. I'm expecting ovulation in about two or three days, and if I see some light spotting then, I won't sweat it since that's normal for me, but seeing it mid-cycle really spooked me. So, you dealt with this kind of stuff too?

It wasn't exactly those same issues, more like just a tiny bit of something showing up here and there. Don't stress too much; you'll have your answers once you finish up at the doctor's office.

Linda Wright31 said:I noticed some light spotting again today—just a tiny bit, more like spotting than actual bleeding. Honestly, it freaked me out. I'm terrified. My ovaries are aching too, and it definitely isn't ovulation since my last period was on November 20th, which was about ten days ago.😢

Have you made an appointment with your OB-GYN yet? If this is weighing on you, just know I deal with these exact same symptoms all the time, and I'm pretty sure it’s nothing major. Even I had some spotting five days before my period started, so I wasn't nearly as panicked. You never really know when that little bit of spotting might show up. It could be as simple as a common cold causing some pelvic pain and spotting, but honestly, it’s always best to just go see a doctor and get it sorted.

At this point, I honestly have no clue what you’re talking about or why you’d describe it as "cleansing"—I’ve certainly never experienced anything like that myself. Besides, it's probably best to just go see an OB-GYN; you really shouldn't mess around when it comes to that kind of stuff.

White discharge tends to take on a yellowish tint once you've ovulated, while that frequent urge to pee usually kicks in right before your period starts.

I’m dealing with pretty much the exact same thing; I get these ovarian cysts that seem to burst right during my period, and then during ovulation, I'll deal with some spotting. My back aches almost every month depending on how bad the cysts are, and my breasts get tender too. Aside from getting a Pap smear, it’s probably worth scheduling an ultrasound, though at the end of the day, your doctor is the one who actually knows what's going on.
