Period talk: Questions and advice
in Women's Health ·
Hey there.
So, I'm dealing with the classic modern dilemma: my period arrived early, and now I'm low-key spiraling about a possible pregnancy 🙂. The only weird thing is how much earlier it showed up (assuming it was even actually a period). I'm 22, studying in Chicago, and honestly, I don't even need to explain how stressed I am—you guys have read about this a million times on here 😢
.
Here’s the deal. My period started on June 19th (again, if you can even call it that), accompanied by the usual stomach cramps. It was supposed to arrive on June 25th, so it showed up six days early. The first day was super heavy, lasted about a day and a half, and then turned into a day and a half of brown discharge 😢. For context, I have tricky ovaries (borderline PCOS), and my last OB-GYN appointment was about a year ago. Lately, I've been having frequent abdominal pain... and on the day it finally hit, the cramps were pretty brutal, so I sent my boyfriend to the drugstore for some pain relief. The lady at the pharmacy gave him Advil. Looking at the instructions in the box, there isn't a single word about preventing menstrual symptoms (it just mentions inflammation, arthritis, and musculoskeletal issues). Could these pills be the reason my period cut itself short? Honestly, I've been under massive stress lately because of final exams and a capstone project that's basically draining my soul. As for sex and protection, we use condoms, and even with them, we aren't exactly playing Russian roulette; he always pulls out 🙂. Though, okay, we did have one unprotected encounter once, but it’s the same story as when we use protection. I used to take these pills, but after hearing stories about girls dying from similar meds, I stopped out of pure fear 🙄. One more thing. Every month it's a struggle because my period is always late, which I totally blame on stress (college is a grind, seriously). It always eventually shows up, and I’m usually just relieved my breasts hurt because I know it’s right around the corner. It's kind of ironic—I'm always crying to my boyfriend because it's late, and now that it's arrived way too early, I'm crying because I might be... well, you know 😲. Either way, I'm not feeling great about it. It’s either a pregnancy or my cycle is just completely trashed. I can't get to a gynecologist right now—I barely have time to go to the bathroom because school is absolutely crushing me—so I'll try to swing by her office as soon as I can (maybe in two weeks). Your collective wisdom is my only hope right now, so thanks in advance to anyone who might have a clue what's going on here. Sorry if this is an open topic; like I said, I'm short on time and drowning in coursework, so I didn't really dig through the forums first. Thanks!😉
