Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
Hi there!
My period is all over the place lately—it skips two months during the summer, then shows up after 35 days, then 39, and just this time it took 40 days. I'm wondering if being underweight could be causing this. I weigh about 104 pounds at 5'5", and it’s not because I don't eat; I just have a really fast metabolism. For the last four months, I've been taking Duphaston to try and get things back on track, but it hasn't really done much (first cycle was 35 days, second was 39, now the third is 40). Aside from trying to gain some weight (which I am working on!), would it make sense for me to start birth control? I have an appointment with my OBGYN in a few days, so I'll see what she thinks. Honestly, birth control might be a good option since it would regulate my cycle and provide pregnancy protection 🙂—this unpredictable schedule is driving me crazy because I'm constantly worried I might be pregnant.

One more thing: ever since this summer (when I went 63 days without a period), my flow seems to have changed. It lasts shorter now, maybe 3 or 4 days, and the volume is lower; I only have actual bleeding for about 2 days, and the rest is just brownish discharge that mostly happens when I go to the bathroom. Is that normal? My periods used to last about 5 or 6 days, usually with two heavy days followed by a gradual taper.
Also, lately I've noticed I have to use the restroom more frequently. Could I have a bladder infection or something similar that might be affecting my period?
