Grove, calling it metalcore?? Man, you clearly have no clue what you're talking about... Metallica basically birthed melodic death metal, and honestly, thanks to Jesper, that whole subgenre actually took off. Major respect to Jesper 🙏-
Metalcore grew out of heavy metal and hardcore punk, whereas Metallica isn't even in the same zip code as metalcore. Personally, I can't stand most metalcore stuff—it feels too preprimitivno to me. The vocals are grating, the choruses are weak, and it just ends up looking like some weird blend of emo and black metal. I mean, there's always *something* good in there somewhere, but still. And if you look at how the band themselves views their identity, Anders put it perfectly: "We are who we are; we love heavy metal music, and we hate being shoved into little boxes." Honestly, those guys are way more grounded in real life than they ever are on stage (in Metallica). Especially Björn and Anders. On that first album, Anders wasn't even the one singing, which is why it hits differently—they were still just kids back then.
Anyway, just listen to whatever music speaks to you and feels high quality. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Just because your friend group is blasting one thing doesn't mean anything else is bad or that you aren't allowed to enjoy it. You kind of need bad music to exist just so you can recognize what actual good music sounds like. But yeah, this world is just crawling with clueless people who honestly don't have a clue what they're talking about.
