Rhinoplasty recovery: What to expect?
in Health ·
I figured I’d weigh in and share my own experience here.
I had my nose done when I was 17 (with Glumicic). Before the surgery, I was incredibly unhappy with how I looked. Honestly, my nose was a massive insecurity for me; it made me feel unattractive all the time. Today, I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin 🙂.
Here’s the breakdown of the procedure:
Before the big day, I had to get blood work and an EKG done (PRO TIP 🙂: seriously, go through your primary care physician to get referrals instead of using private labs. It’ll save you a ton of money—that happened to a friend of mine)$333.
The actual surgery took about an hour. Right after it was over, I felt absolutely wiped out and nauseous—standard anesthesia reaction.
For the first three days, I had nasal packing in, so obviously, breathing through my nose was out of the question. I couldn't eat anything solid either, just soft foods. To be blunt, the recovery period wasn't exactly a walk in the park (it is major surgery, after all)
. Once the packing came out, I felt a lot better, though I still couldn't breathe through my nose. Plus, I had those typical dark bags and swelling under my eyes.
Basically, I stayed holed up at home for a week, and even when I finally stepped outside, I was still feeling a bit lightheaded.
All the swelling and fatigue eventually cleared up after about a month.
Bottom line: if you are deeply unhappy with your nose, I highly recommend going for it. After a month of healing, I felt significantly better and more beautiful. I have zero regrets about getting the surgery 🙂.
On top of the aesthetics, I also had a deviated septum that caused major breathing issues—my nose would stay clogged all winter long—but those problems are totally gone now 😉.
