People were already talking about all of this ages ago over on the sub-forum dedicated to the subject...

Anyway, you're gonna have a bunch of scammers trying to tell you that I’m the one out here chasing their dreams. Please. Total nonsense.😁

Who the hell is gonna know? They probably have like a thousand different accounts running around.😁 One of my heavy hitters. Glock 45Look, a username is just a username, I get it. But there’s actually a whole story behind that one.🤣

No, I don't think so. I know how this works.😁

Who on earth knows? Honestly, there are probably a thousand fake accounts running around.😁 One of the more prominent ones I've noticed is Glock 45. I mean, a username is just a username, I guess, but there’s actually a bit of a story behind that one.🤣

Well, it's pretty well known, really,😁 and I happened to mention them to that person earlier today.🤣

boldhound8 said:For crying out loud, everyone’s got their own version of the PZK.😁 Look, I’m just saying—someone is actually reading this stuff. Your outrage, your suggestions on how to fix things? Believe me, someone is on the other side watching it all unfold.😉

Alright, fine. At least we finally agreed that the dream is freaking awesome.😁

Honestly, :z:, it’s kind of a bummer, but because of some of these "smart" moderators, all those old funny threads vanished, and now I have to dig through archives just to find a specific username or an old topic just to get a quick laugh and remember the good old days...

And honestly, compared to the good mods we used to have like Pesica, the ones running things today are pretty much useless... maybe they should try reading her posts as required reading, just to learn how things are actually supposed to be handled... there's a suggestion for you.😁

And boldhound8, seriously, how much longer are you going to sit there and pretend to respect this? The fact remains that Richard Perez3 was against every single proposal and spent her time commenting on posts from some self-appointed (poor thing) pedestal—exactly how it shouldn't be done—and then, somehow, she gets appointed as a moderator. She shouldn't be a mod. Period.
Don't make me laugh; it's already ridiculous enough.😁

boldhound8 said:Man, I’m just trying to say don't waste your keystrokes on useless stuff. Better to talk about things that might actually happen instead of wasting breath on scenarios that have zero chance of ever seeing the light of day.😉 Because even if you feel like you're just talking nonsense, people actually read this, and smart suggestions can actually make it all the way to reality.🙂

ps. You clearly have no idea who you're dealing with. Come out to a football game and see how fast you get a red card.🙂😁

A proposal? Honestly, one shouldn't even have to write them down; they should just naturally exist, which I think even Anderson understands. Me giving him a proposal?😁 I don't hold myself in particularly high regard, nor have I exactly discovered fire here. I mean, he probably doesn't care. He’ll keep running with this narrative for as long as it serves him, and if he actually wanted to change things, he would. It wouldn't be an issue. But he won't, simply because it isn't profitable for him. He isn't stupid—we are, and some people even more so. He's operating on a different level, though I won't go so far as to say that.😁

As for how you moderate, I haven't been following the football threads, but I can take a pretty good guess at what's going on there given the nature of the topic.😁 Regarding your other posts, which is how I'd judge you, I think you're perfectly fine.🙂

boldhound8 said:Moderators aren't getting paid, and they won't be anytime soon, so why even waste your breath arguing about it?
I mean, I’d personally love to be the first one in line for a paycheck, but let's be real—it's just not happening...

And without that cash, it’s even more delusional to expect someone to take on a handle just to moderate. We're all actual human beings here hanging out for a reason, and I highly doubt anyone would agree to just moderate without some kind of compensation—which, like I said above, isn't on the table. It's a solid idea in theory, but totally impossible with this volunteer setup.😉

I was only mentioning it in the context of what if they *were* paid. In my view, if you aren't getting paid, it seems somewhat pointless for someone to moderate without actually participating in the discussions. It's just about the motivation behind it.
Actually, the debate isn't really about whether people should be paid or not, but rather why the moderation works the way it does and why certain individuals end up in those roles. The forum itself is holding up quite well, considering threads like this have been popping up for at least four years now, which suggests the underlying issues—technical or otherwise—are constant. I suppose nobody can really take much pride in that situation.
boldhound8, you're fine; nothing being said here is directed at you. Just for the record.😁

I suppose your response is pretty hollow and feels a bit childish, especially since you didn't even catch what I was laughing at in my post.
The era of the Glock passed a long time ago 😁

fadedeagle39 said:Let’s be real here. I post on other sub-forums sometimes—like the Diaspora section, where everything is fine. A mod might pop in if they need to, but otherwise, they participate constructively and keep it moving. Credit to them for even taking on the job. But the Politics sub-forum? That place is a mess, and it’s not just me feeling that way. The threads are way too loaded with emotion, and all this arrogant bias doesn't help anyone. It's just people dumping their private frustrations. Honestly, I'm all for hiring professionals and paying for access to the Forum. Without that, we're just shouting into the void.

If you're going to pay a moderator, I guess they should probably be banned from posting in the very subforum they moderate. At least there. There's no reason for them to be debating with users and then getting dragged into personal conflicts. They should just focus on moderating. Again, I'm saying if we're talking about paying for it...😁

Paying for access, hmm... I'm not sure how much that would actually be worth to anyone. Personally, I don't think I'd pay, and I doubt most people here would either. We'd probably be left with just a tiny handful of people. And since the goal is usually to have high traffic and good stats, I fear this site doesn't really rely on the kind of statistics everyone keeps obsessing over; maybe there are other underlying issues at play here instead.😁

fadedeagle39 said:I’ve officially given up on posting in the Politics subforum because, frankly, the way certain moderators intervene is just crude and provocative. It actually got under my skin so much I considered filing a lawsuit. I don't get why you can't just put mods on ignore—sometimes it’s honestly better if their posts are just invisible. This arrogant power trip some of these mods pull is getting out of hand.

I actually like the idea of paying moderators. If they were professionals, they’d just do their jobs, stay impartial, and maybe even provide actual facts on a topic. I don't care about trolls or bans, and I know I occasionally write things that aren't top-tier myself... but the arrogance and blatant bias from the mods is what kills me. They give themselves permission to be insulting, arrogant, and primitive. Am I supposed to stoop to that level just to participate in a debate? I’ve done it before, and I'm not proud of it. Or should I just stop participating in Politics altogether? Maybe the whole moderator system needs a complete overhaul. Personally, I’m all for paying them, even if it means fewer people participating in discussions... and fewer useless clones. Given how many users we have, it wouldn't cost a fortune.

The current excuse is always "they aren't paid for this," so they think they have the right to act however they want. They can frustrate a huge number of participants without facing any consequences. It's pointless and plain rude.

I think the right word is unprofessional. It's amateurish, impulsive, and driven more by intuition and a desire to flex power here because they can't do it anywhere else. I don't see any other reason why someone would work for free for someone who is profiting from it, unless they get some personal satisfaction out of it. It's pathetic and naive. I would never want to be a moderator here. Well, maybe if they paid me.😁

I have to tip my hat to some of the moderators who actually engage in the smarter sub-forums and step in to maintain order when needed. But then you have others who won't even post for months; they just sit there acting as moderators. 🙄

I haven't received a single warning or had a complaint filed against me yet, but when I read the posts from certain moderators, it genuinely makes me sick that such a person can hold a moderator position. I'm talking about someone who decides what is acceptable and what isn't for everyone else, yet writes complete nonsense themselves and has zero moral compass. And now, supposedly, this person is meant to dispense justice to others and serve as a role model. 🙄

As for the technical side of how this site is run, I won't even go there. That's a whole different story that becomes very easy to follow if you have even a slight understanding of how things work and know a little bit about certain people. 😁

Look, I assume I’m lagging behind on your moderation duties—specifically this whole move over to the women's section, which I suppose wouldn't have even caught if I hadn't been scrolling through boldhound8's list of mods... so much for my claim that I actually keep up with what goes on here (not that I'm particularly proud of it)😁, and honestly, a women's corner isn't really my scene, but the way you moderate it feels like an insult to me as a woman, and frankly, as an intelligent person too

I might have complained more if I actually gave a damn about these subforums, or even this entire site—but I mostly just drift in occasionally to spot a few gems... sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's just tragic, but I guess life goes on anyway😁

Rachel Sanchez11 said:And once again, we've turned this thread into whatever boldhound8 was rambling about regarding U vs M.
But I guess that happened because the mods feel like they're being attacked...
Hmm, does it count as "already said" if you were just stating your own opinion?

Yeah, I love thinking like that, and usually, I'll double down on that kind of logic...
😁

Especially when I've got nothing better to do...
☕

P.S. smartie, if everything really had been said, there wouldn't be a brand new thread all about her...
Let's make a bet:
If a similar thread about her pops up within a month, you resign and get a permanent ban...
If it doesn't happen, I'll never become a moderator (Lord knows what I'm even betting here) and I'll get a permanent ban...

Deal?

It would be quite nice if you actually won that bet.

I honestly have no idea who even appointed her to the moderation team; personally, I wouldn't trust her to run a lemonade stand.😁

Then again, the moderator is currently on vacation, so maybe they should just let things stay as they are? 🤷😁

Chris Morgan67 I suppose I should probably mention what Rebecca Rogers5 said about this.
I have to say, I honestly think this whole campaign against the Sun is getting a bit out of hand. It feels like such an exaggeration at times. For me personally, because I have to deal with psoriasis, I actually need regular Sun exposure just to manage my skin, and I've found that it works wonders for me. Maybe it's just my specific situation, but it really does make a massive difference.
I guess I just find that whenever I get some decent Sun, my mood lifts quite a bit, though I suppose it’s more than just a mental thing since it seems to benefit my entire body as well.

Just so you're aware, almost every single sunscreen out there—and honestly, even most modern mineral makeup—is packed with titanium dioxide particles, which some people suspect might actually be contributing to skin cancer in the first place.
It seems like I’m looking at a deep dive into titanium dioxide, which is essentially one of those substances that manages to be everywhere and nowhere all at once. It’s used as a whitening agent in everything from high-end paints to the food we eat, though I suppose that ubiquity is exactly what makes it a bit unsettling when you start reading about the potential implications. I guess it’s one of those things where you realize how much of our modern environment is built on chemical additives that we barely think twice about, even if there's ongoing debate regarding their long-term impact on health. It’s a strange reality, I suppose, that something so fundamental to making products look clean and bright might carry complexities that aren't immediately obvious to the average consumer.

I sometimes find myself wondering where this whole world of ours has actually gone.😂😂 I guess it’s probably more likely that you’ll end up facing cancer from the sunscreen you're slathering on rather than from the Sun itself; though, then again, maybe you'd be better off dealing with whatever issues come from those pills, vitamins, or other toxins you're ingesting on a daily basis.

Let's not get distracted from the main point here; I suppose it's just an obvious reality that about 70% of what we consume daily or even just apply to our skin is potentially carcinogenic in some way or another.

It seems like we’re seeing more and more people developing some kind of allergy to the Sun lately. I actually know three people personally who can't handle any direct sunlight anymore, which is strange because we grew up spending every single day together at the beach. Now, they deal with constant rashes, lichen planus, or severe burns, I guess. It's just one of those things that makes you wonder what's actually changing.

Of course, there are countless variables at play here—things like your specific skin type, genetic predispositions, and so on—but I suppose we can't ignore the reality that skin cancer is becoming increasingly common, and it seems that UV radiation accounts for somewhere between 50% and 70% of those cases.

I wouldn't call myself some kind of fanatic or anything, I just happen to feel that excessive sun exposure and using tanning beds is probably unhealthy. That’s really all there is to it, I guess.

I’ve always had pretty fair skin, the kind that gets those little sunspots across the nose, though I don't exactly burn easily, I suppose. But over the last two or three years, I've started noticing moles popping up all over my body right after the summer ends. It makes me think that maybe I shouldn't be taking this quite so lightly anymore.

I suppose you’ll find conflicting opinions on whether something is harmful or beneficial no matter where you look. Honestly, I don't let that bother me too much; at the end of the day, what matters is that I can actually feel the difference, listen to my own body, and react accordingly.

placidfalcon said:Daily Sun exposure? Yes. Getting fried? No.
I’m talking maybe 20 minutes at high noon when the Sun is hitting hardest. That’s all you need to grab your daily dose of Vitamin D, which keeps your immune system on point and helps prevent a ton of different cancers (melanoma included).

I hear you, placidfalcon, and I'm certainly not suggesting anyone should live like a vampire and hide indoors, but I guess I’m really referring to that intense, aggressive tanning that seems to be everyone's go-to move. It's that habit where people just fry themselves from sunrise to sunset for seven days straight or more, all just to chase a darker tan, and that’s what I mean. Of course, Sun exposure is necessary and healthy in moderation, but we don't live in Norway or Sweden where we're deprived of light for most of the year... I figure if you just take a quick walk every day, which most of us do anyway, you'd probably get the amount you need in about 20 minutes.
Sunbathing in Health ·
So...
I've finally decided to ditch the tanning after twenty years of basically frying myself under the sun. I think I reached my limit because, honestly, the UV levels these days just don't feel normal anymore, and the constant appearance of moles along with premature skin aging is something every doctor seems to warn us about—especially for women like me who care about aesthetics, if not outright health.😁

This summer marks the first time I've spent my time either hiding in the shade or slathering on SPF 30 or 40, depending on whatever was within arm's reach. I should mention that I grew up near the coast, even though I live in Los Angeles now, so I used to spend my entire summer lounging on the beach, rubbing olive oil or homemade calendula oil on my skin without a single drop of protection; I even used tanning beds during the winter.

Now that I'm approaching 30, I suppose I've finally grown up a little. I started noticing that people in my age group are already developing fine lines around their eyes and their skin looks increasingly dry and thin. On top of that, I watched this documentary about the Sun and how it affects the skin, which showed the aging process of a woman in her mid-40s who had tanned aggressively; she ended up looking like crinkled parchment paper.

Whenever I bring this up with my girlfriends, the typical response is usually some variation of, "Oh, please, I'm not 45 yet; I really don't care what I look like then."

Well, I used to think the exact same way, but as I get older, those 45-year-olds actually look much younger to me. Seeing how some still look beautiful while others look exactly how I want to avoid, combined with the fact that I expect to have at least another thirty years of life ahead of me, I figured it might be wise to start thinking about the future. I'm pale as a ghost now, and everyone teases me, claiming I'm lying when I say I've been to the beach.😁, and since I'll likely be living well past 45, I decided it's better to plan ahead.😁

Anyway, I'm curious about something.

How many of you have decided to step away from the sun entirely?
Is it difficult being pale when you're sitting next to some artificially tanned blonde?😁

Or do you find comfort in that old-fashioned idea that fair skin is a sign of elegance and sophistication?😁

Personally, I'm finding peace in it; in fact, I might just turn it into a lifestyle.😁 😁
