So what? It’s not like you have to walk in there acting like you have a broken leg just to talk to him; you can just vent about your life or whatever problems are weighing you down.
I mean, honestly, does it even matter if he's a psychiatrist or an orthopedist?🙄

Some people deal with it constantly, while others just hit rough patches every now and then.

I honestly think I fall into that chronic category, and I’m starting to realize it’s probably time to go out and find some professional help. I've been dealing with depression (self-diagnosed, anyway) for a really long time now, and it feels like it’s rooted deep in my childhood and those very first memories I have. I always had this nagging feeling that all of this would eventually catch up with me sooner or later, and well, that time has officially arrived. It's actually been simmering under the surface inside me for ages.

Reading through that whole "Depression?" thread really opened my eyes to how many people are actually struggling with this, and it seems like society is finally starting to view mental illness more like any other physical ailment. It feels like people are realizing that, given everything going on in the world right now, it's totally normal to be having a hard time mentally.

The whole reason I'm writing this intro is because I'm looking for recommendations—does anyone know a really solid psychiatrist in the Washington, D.C. area or somewhere nearby? I'm also curious about what private sessions cost and if it's actually worth paying out of pocket; I wonder if there are better options available through Medicare? I’d really appreciate any advice or leads, especially when it comes to treating depressive states.

There's one guy who's fantastic. His name is Ivan Bojanić and he practices over at Salat. To be fair, the waitlist to see him can be a bit long, but he's truly excellent. As for private practice options, I honestly don't have any info on that.
