Looking for a specialist...

I heard there's this whole thing about gynecologists, where male doctors are supposedly "gentler" or whatever... so does that mean a female urologist should be gentler too?
I wouldn't generalize like that. It really just depends on the doctor, whether they're male or female—it applies to pretty much any specialist, right? If you're a guy, I'd probably suggest starting with a male urologist, just like I'd recommend a female gynecologist for women, even though some people swear the opposite gender handles things better. But again, everyone is different. You have different skill levels, experience, bedside manner, etc. Gender isn't everything. You can pick someone based on your own gut feeling or just rely on what others say.
And if someone gives a recommendation, does it matter if it's a man or a woman?
Well, it depends on where you live and if you're looking at private practice or a hospital system... Not sure if you knew, but there are actually websites dedicated to doctor reviews across all specialties: http://najdoktor.com/.
