Hey everyone...
Not totally sure if I'm posting this in the right spot—if I've messed up, please just move the thread for me.
So, my husband saw his doctor today and was asking for a referral for some blood work.
He hasn't had a checkup in like two years, so I figured we might as well get that out of the way while we were at it.
He works as a welder in some pretty rough conditions, too.
The doctor basically told him she can't just hand out referrals whenever someone feels like it—apparently, if he wants blood work done, he needs to go private and pay out of pocket, or just come back when he actually starts showing symptoms of an illness.
And now... well, we're wondering who's actually in the right here?
It doesn't make any sense to us—we're paying for our health insurance, then he goes to the doctor for once and she refuses because there aren't any specific symptoms yet. What happened to regular preventative care?
Just to give some context, about a year ago, I realized I had major thyroid issues during a similar kind of preventative screening. The symptoms kind of crept up on me so slowly that I didn't even notice them at first.
Maybe we're overreacting a bit because that whole thing spooked us, but I really don't think getting a checkup every couple of years is asking for too much.
Thanks in advance for any insight you guys have.
