I don't have any specific eye issues or pain, but I still want to go in for a preventative checkup. It's better to be proactive; you never realize there's an issue until you start losing your senses. Since I have the time right now, I want to get my vision up to its absolute peak and follow a doctor's advice to maintain that level for the rest of my life. In that case, what kind of exam should I ask for? I've never actually seen an ophthalmologist before. Also, once the exam is done, can I undergo things like cleaning or removal procedures to improve my sight, even if I haven't been diagnosed with any disease? Can I even book an appointment if I'm not experiencing pain or noticeable vision problems, but just want to optimize everything? Finally, can an ophthalmologist give me guidance on long-term vision preservation—things like eye hygiene, diet, etc.—so I can maintain the best possible vision allowed by my genetics well into old age? Thanks for any suggestions.
