So, here’s the deal. I actually read on this forum that it might be better to avoid surgery while you're young, since there's a chance they just come right back after the procedure. Maybe it's smarter to try dealing with them using an ointment first... I guess that's my plan. I'm 23, and I'm pretty sure they flared up because of physical strain.

If it’s flared up now and you stay consistent with the ointment, maybe it won't even get worse. I had inflammation twice—absolute nightmare, wouldn't wish it on anyone. I saw a doctor, and they told me exactly what I'm telling you. If things really get inflamed, use Preparation H—it works in two days (tried it myself). Eat plenty of fiber and drink lots of fluids. Maybe hold off on sports for a little while. I read on the evening news that heavy lifting at the gym can also cause hemorrhoids. Take care.

I'm almost certain this lump popped up because I overdid it... I went way too hard on my abs these past few days and, well, here we are.
Since this showed up, I've been washing with cold water regularly and it seems to be shrinking a bit; it doesn't bleed or hurt yet. But I read somewhere that running is actually good for hemorrhoids because it strengthens the skin around the area and prevents them from forming... is that actually true?

Everything you said holds water, I guess... but between waiting for a specialist and actually getting an exam to confirm a diagnosis... man... I don't want to sound reckless, but maybe I'd just try to fix the issue myself in a week first. If it doesn't clear up, then I'll head to the doctor. Besides, I'm not in pain and there's no bleeding... maybe I'll just apply some Dolokain or Factu ointment and cool it down with some water to see what happens...

Help me out here, I'm freaking out a bit... I was showering yesterday and noticed this little lump near my anus, maybe 5mm. Probably just an external hemorrhoid... I've been reading up on them constantly since yesterday, rinsing the area with cold water and applying some Nivea cream... I'm also cutting back on certain foods. Is there any chance this thing will just go away on its own? Should I hit the pharmacy for some Dolokain or Factu? Honestly, I'm too embarrassed to see a doctor or tell anyone, so I'd rather just fix it myself... Oh, and one more thing—I work out at the gym regularly. Could this have popped up because of the straining? Maybe I should stop lifting until this clears up?
