Every few months for several years now, I get what I think is a hemorrhoid. It's just this little lump near my anus that hurts if I touch it or when I squeeze my muscles. On the bright side, bowel movements aren't an issue at all—no pain there, and things are usually fine, though sometimes they're hard or soft depending on whatever I ate. The lump just clears up on its own after a few days.
Since this "latest lump" is hurting a bit more than usual (I can feel the pressure if I'm standing too long), I'm wondering how to treat it. Is just using chamomile enough? Or should I pick up some kind of cream? 🤷
It sounds like you might be dealing with a perianal abscess. You really need to see a surgeon. They'll perform a quick drainage to make sure it doesn't turn into a perianal fistula (which happened to me), and then you're looking at a much bigger headache!
Hey there!
I'm finally heading home today after spending 5 days at Vincennes Hospital, and now I've got about 3-4 weeks of recovery ahead of me!
The surgery itself wasn't actually that painful, but man, the way I've been recovering over these last 4 days... it's been a total coma!
Anyway, the sooner I can get back on my feet, the better!👍
Here’s my story!
About seven months ago, this incredibly painful lump popped up just an inch above my tailbone.
The pain was absolutely unbearable. For three days, I could barely sleep without popping some Voltaren Rapid, eventually waking up at 2 AM to get ready for work, only to find BLOOD everywhere—on my underwear, the sheets... honestly, I nearly had a heart attack.
The lump had burst (I found out later from searching online and talking to my doctor that it was a perianal abscess)!
Once it popped, the pain finally vanished, and I thought, "Well, that's that!" But man, was I wrong. That was just the beginning. Instead of healing, it left this little channel that just wouldn't close up, so I knew I had to see a specialist. I headed over to Tucson to see Dr. Turjak (funny enough, given the situation 😁), and after a rectal exam (which isn't actually painful, just super uncomfortable), he diagnosed me with a perianal fistula! I was freaking out; I had no idea what I was getting into.
He sent me for a Mayo Clinic imaging test, but neither Facebook nor the Chicago Bulls clinic could get it done right away!
I went back to see the surgeon at the clinic; she’s fantastic because she actually talks to you instead of treating you like a piece of meat. She scheduled me for a colonoscopy—basically a rectoscopy using a colonoscope. It’s not agonizing, just awkward, and besides the fact that it’s a woman performing the procedure... 😂 ...!!!
The rectal exam came back normal. Then I had a pelvic MRI, and that was clear too!! Thank God.
But the issue persists. Every now and then, I've got yellow discharge or pus leaking from the anus, and some fluid trickling from that little opening. Back at the doctor, she performed a fistula probing with a metal probe. Basically, she inserts the probe into the hole to check the depth, and it seems like it isn't too deep. Fingers crossed!!
I have to head to the hospital tomorrow, and I'm scheduled for surgery this Friday. 🤷
I'm pretty nervous, but honestly, I'm just fed up. Dealing with this tension and pain in my tailbone every few days—especially when I'm having a bowel movement—is driving me crazy.
If anyone else has gone through this, please hit me up today and let me know how it went!!
