Why are Americans so salty about skiers? in Close to Politics ·
It’s not even just about the typical local complaining; it’s this constant, forced narrative about how everything is falling apart and people are living out of shipping containers—mostly from folks who are literally taking out loans just to go skiing. Honestly, it bugs me. It bothers me seeing malls packed to the brim, people hitting the slopes, buying brand-new SUVs... all while being done by people making the same amount of money I do, only to turn around later and whine about how it's a disaster, how they can't afford groceries, or how they don't have a single cent in savings. A little reality check would go a long way.

As for skiing itself, hey, do whatever you want with your money, it's none of my business. I just wish those same people wouldn't lecture everyone else about economic collapses and social catastrophes afterward...
Ever since the mid-90s and the whole Jean-Marc Bosman era, soccer has been swallowed whole by pure capitalism. Since then, it feels like every single decision being made is driven by just one thing—cold, hard cash.
It’s just the inevitable result of everything that came before it. We’re slowly marching toward an NBA-style system where pros won't even consider playing for their national teams. Honestly, most of modern soccer has become pretty nauseating to me, and the one thing I actually look forward to is international play.

This new qualification setup is going to absolutely kill off national teams because they'll barely ever get to play a match on American soil once every two years. And what kind of tournament is it even going to be with 24 teams? You're definitely diluting the quality, and on top of that, the competition format has to become as convoluted as handball or basketball, which just guts the tradition of soccer tournaments. It’s all just pointless.

It’s funny how hard it is to find people who smoke but don't drink, while you see the exact opposite all the time...
