Anyway, I think we can wrap this whole discussion up now. My take on it is basically this:
Anyone could lose their insurance card, I guess, but I don't really get how you wouldn't just tell your parents you lost it, or why they wouldn't be asking where it went in the first place. It seems a bit weird to me.
And honestly, back home in Canada, you have to bring in some kind of proof from school every single year to show you're a full-time student just so you don't end up getting hit with a bill when you go to the doctor.
I'm just sharing my two cents here, though, and everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.

When exactly was I attacking her? All I did was point out that she should have been honest about losing them, which she really should have done.
As for carrying identification, I've been saying from the very start that I am absolutely in favor of it. Anyone can lose their documents, and now at least she can rest easy knowing it won't happen again—because, speaking from experience, once you lose something like that, you become hyper-vigilant. The worst thing you can do is become so afraid of losing them that you stop carrying them altogether. Life is unpredictable; things happen when you least expect them, even just on your way to class or school.🙂

Everyone's different, I guess.
And honestly, I don't know a single person who actually carries their health insurance card on them all the time.
Just wanted to give you guys an update and let you know they finally pulled my catheter out. So, I haven't actually masturbated in seven days, but I think I might have had a wet dream last night or something. I guess I'm just wondering how that even happens when I've been being so careful?

In my opinion, you should just carry your health insurance card with you and be done with it. What, do you keep your Social Security card tucked away in a drawer too? 🤷
Or are you actually aware that you might end up dropping it somewhere, which is exactly why you don't bother carrying it? ☕

Yeah, sure, I’m being a smart-ass while everyone else is just being perfectly reasonable.
It’s not like I’m worried about losing stuff, I just don't see any point in lugging an insurance card around if I don't actually need it.
Funny how you were the first one tearing into them, and now suddenly you're playing defense.

It’s not about anything sexual or seeing a gynecologist, I'm actually going in to have some implants removed... anyway... I consider myself a responsible person 😍 and I've kept my ID safe since I was 13 inside my wallet and everything was fine... Fortunately, nothing bad happened over those two years 😁 and besides... I wouldn't go to a gynecologist even if you paid me!!

I can definitely see how responsible you are.
What really gets under my skin are those little punks around 15 years old who act like they've already figured out everything there is to know about the world.

neonridge55 said:And there it goes... someone always manages to lose something essential, doesn't it? And of course—because why wouldn't they?—they leave their health insurance cards behind at home. It’s such a classic mistake, really, but a risky one too—since you truly never know what kind of medical emergency might pop up when you're out on a trip. 👍

Look, my dear—whether it happens sooner or later, you're eventually going to have to face it. But when that moment actually arrives and you find yourself in need, I promise you, it won't be nearly as much of a struggle as you might think right now. Believe me on that. 😉

Say, did you happen to mention that health insurance coverage to your folks yet?

I mean, what good is her health insurance while she's out on vacation anyway?

Maybe just tell them you only lost it a couple of days ago.

neonridge55 said:Fair enough. Perhaps I just have a different perspective since I moved out quite early and got used to managing my own affairs!
Though, my younger brother is fifteen now, and I know he’s been responsible for his own insurance card for a while— 🤔 even if he isn't carrying it in his wallet every single day, he's still the one in charge of making sure it's accounted for. 🤷

Alright, sorry, maybe I am overreacting a little bit here. Maybe I'm just wired a bit differently, but it honestly blows my mind that 14 or 15-year-olds are expected to manage their own health insurance cards. And especially when parents don't even realize their kid lost their card two years ago.

neonridge55 said:Fair enough. That makes sense. ☕

But what if she happened to lose it on the way home from the clinic? 😂

I mean, if she lost it while coming back from the clinic, the mom really should have just asked where it went.
And honestly, I don't see any big deal with parents keeping track of their kids' medical records.

neonridge55 said:Well, honestly, my parents wouldn't have noticed either—it's not like they're digging through my pockets looking for things. If my card is in my wallet, then it's there, simple as that. If some kind of emergency actually happens, I'll just tell them.

So you just don't carry yours? Let Mom keep it safe for you, then—that way, if anything ever goes wrong, you can just give her a call and ask her to bring it over. ☕

it's not like my mom carries it for me or whatever, I only really take it when I have to head to the doctor, which doesn't happen that often. otherwise, it just sits in my drawer.

I mean, I honestly think she’s probably just dealing with some medical stuff right now, like maybe she needs to see a gynecologist because things are getting serious with her boyfriend. It’s probably something along those lines, I guess.

neonridge55 said:Look, I have absolutely no clue how SHE managed to lose it, but here's the thing: if she had it tucked away in her wallet, and then she lost the wallet... well, there you have it!
I used to carry mine everywhere once I started high school. Back in middle school, though, I didn't even bother carrying a wallet, let alone my insurance info... 😍

Yeah, but I still find it kind of weird that her parents didn't notice she hadn't had her Medicare card for two whole years.
I'm 20 now, so I just never carry my medical card around with me.

neonridge55 said:I'm not sure what your situation is, but here in the US, you just submit proof of schooling once a year and that's that... what do you mean by "verifying" every month? That doesn't happen...

Well, I always keep mine in my wallet—where else would I put it? I mean, you never know what might happen or where you might end up... though, since I moved out of my parents' house pretty early, it didn't make sense to leave it sitting at home with the old folks, so I started carrying it in my wallet. That was until I lost my wallet once. 😁 Even after that, I still keep it in my wallet. I just watch it more closely. 😍 Honestly, everyone I know carries theirs in their wallet. 🤷

Let's not get ahead of ourselves regarding "immature behavior"... ☕

And besides, why would there be any reason for a 14-year-old to be carrying their Medicare card around in their wallet? Don't you usually just carry your health insurance info with you when you head to school every day?

neonridge55 said:Believe me, losing one is incredibly easy... especially if you keep it in your wallet, which is really the only sensible place for it anyway...

And I honestly don't follow the logic here—why would anyone else be holding her Medicare card instead of her? Why on earth would her mother be the one keeping it safe... 😕
And what exactly are you talking about regarding "updating" a card? You're probably thinking of that annual verification process where you prove you're still a student to maintain eligibility. Though, she's sixteen now, and if I recall correctly—though my memory isn't perfect—you don't even need to worry about that until they turn eighteen...

Around here, you actually have to provide proof of enrollment regularly, and you have to verify your insurance coverage every single month. Maybe it's different in other places, I don't know.
And honestly, I don't see any point in her carrying that card in her wallet; that just seems totally nonsensical to me.
Plus, it makes sense for her mom to keep track of it and hold onto it, mostly because she's still a kid and isn't exactly being super responsible yet.
Oh, come on... it’s not even about the money... I just really can't be bothered listening to people lecture me... and by the way, this all happened two years ago... so yeah... I haven't had health insurance for two years now...😳[/QUOTE

So you've basically been getting grilled by your parents for two whole years about losing your coverage. Honestly, I don't get how you let that slip through the cracks in the first place.
And I mean, it just makes sense for your mom to keep you on her plan. Plus, you actually have to renew your insurance periodically, and if you aren't doing that, you're basically flying without a net.
Robert Rogers95 said:Damn... well... I guess I'll give it a shot... then we'll see how it goes. 😁

So what is it that you can't tell your parents? Is it some kind of huge secret or something?

I mean, I'm not really sure what someone would be trying to hide from their parents in this situation, I guess.
So, I finally picked up my urine culture results from the lab today, and everything looks totally fine—no bacteria or anything weird showing up. They actually had to put a catheter in me because I just couldn't go on my own, which was pretty rough. Anyway, I’ve got a follow-up appointment scheduled for this Wednesday.
I was just wondering, though... do you think they'll actually take the catheter out during that visit?
