This is my process (I'll try to be as thorough as possible, if you will...):
I hit Quote on the post—a quote box pops up—then I highlight the specific section I want to address; I click the icon (the one that looks like a little comic speech bubble...); that highlighted bit gets wrapped in quote tags at both ends; then I just type my response right after those tags; if I need to react to another part, I highlight it again, hit the icon, and add my comment there too.

Just practicing.

Elizabeth Howard8 said:That happens because you forget to ditch the massive quote block after you highlight and cite specific bits... you just leave the whole damn thing from when you hit the quote button at the bottom. Just kill that first quote before you start typing your reply. ".

Nah, then his name won't even show up

nor will there be a link back to his original post. What I always do is just snip the tag from the end and slap it onto the end of the first section you actually want to talk about,
and then for everything else, just use that "highlight then quote" trick

let me see how it looks
Since you didn't even link his original post, you might want to try my usual trick—just grab that tag from the end of the post and move it to the end of the specific section you actually want to comment on.

Let me see how that looks

Back in May, American astronomers discovered Gliese 581 D, located roughly 20 light-years away; it’s about six times the size of Earth and part of a system containing at least six planets. Then, just three months later, a Swiss person reported that another planet, HD 85512b, sitting 36 light-years out, might actually be habitable. This particular planet, tucked away in the Veli valley, has a mass approximately 3.6 times that of Earth.

Just testing things out—let's see how this goes.

[ICODE][COLOR=#000000] [COLOR=#0000BB]Astronomers have just announced the discovery of three new planets sitting outside our solar system.[/COLOR][COLOR=#007700], [/COLOR][COLOR=#0000BB]Exoplanets—or what most people just call "planets outside our solar system."[/COLOR][COLOR=#007700], [/COLOR][COLOR=#0000BB]So, I’ve been sitting here thinking about this lately, and it really makes you wonder: which experts do people actually think are qualified to lead the charge when it comes to future generations colonizing space? It’s a massive question, isn't it? We aren't just talking about sending a few astronauts up to the ISS for a weekend; we're talking about building entire societies on Mars or somewhere out there in the deep dark. I mean, if you ask some folks, they'll point toward the heavy hitters in aerospace engineering—the types working at NASA or SpaceX who can actually build the rockets without them blowing up on the launchpad. That's obvious. But honestly, that feels like a pretty narrow view. You can have the best propulsion systems in the world, but if you can't sustain life, you're just building very expensive, high-tech coffins. In my mind, we need more than just rocket scientists. We need biologists who can figure out how to grow food in regolith that probably contains toxic perchlorates. We need sociologists and psychologists because, let’s be real, putting a small group of humans in a cramped, pressurized tin can for years on end is a recipe for absolute mental breakdown. If we don't get the social structure right, those early colonies are going to descend into chaos faster than a crowded subway during rush hour in NYC. Then there's the legal side of things. Who decides the laws on a colony? Is it US federal law? Is it some new kind of maritime law applied to the stars? We need legal scholars who can navigate the mess of international treaties and planetary sovereignty before we even leave the atmosphere. It’s easy to get caught up in the "cool" factor of the tech, but the actual survival of a multi-generational mission depends on a much broader spectrum of expertise. It’s a total logistical and psychological puzzle, and frankly, I'm not sure we've even started identifying the right people to solve it.[/COLOR][COLOR=#007700]. [/COLOR][COLOR=#0000BB]Back in May, some astronomers over in France made a massive discovery regarding Gliese 581 D, which is sitting out there about 20 light-years away from us.[/COLOR][COLOR=#007700], [/COLOR][COLOR=#0000BB]It’s roughly six times the size of Earth, and it actually makes up part of a cluster containing at least six different planets.[/COLOR][COLOR=#007700]. Alright, I’ve picked out this specific text to work on for practice. Hopefully, I’ve finally managed to pinpoint exactly where I went wrong in my last attempt.

[ICODE][COLOR=#000000] [COLOR=#0000BB]Three months have rolled by since that report dropped, and we're still looking at the news that a planet sitting about 36 light-years away—this one called HD 85512b—might actually be habitable. It’s one of those stories that stays in the back of your mind, making you wonder if we're really looking at a second home or just another cosmic mirage.[/COLOR][COLOR=#007700]. [/COLOR][COLOR=#0000BB]There’s a planet out there in the Veli constellation that’s sitting at a mass of roughly 3.[/COLOR][COLOR=#007700],[/COLOR][COLOR=#0000BB]Six times larger than the entire country.[/COLOR][COLOR=#007700]. I just deleted a quote, so I really hope that doesn't end up triggering any more glitches or errors around here.

Just testing things out—an exercise, if you will.
