Steven Fox37 said:Lol, why wouldn't it be able to be unitary? My whole point is that unitarity is an irrelevant argument. If it actually were a unitary state, you wouldn't even care, just like I don't.
Oh, and sure, everyone is corrupt except for the golden boy with the offshore accounts, right?
That's how they ousted Dilma and Lula in Brazil—to make it look like the FBI was involved in everything, while the lead judge later went on a little pilgrimage to Langley.

Edit: I'm sure Yanukovych is corrupt too, and yeah, the elections in Ukraine are shaky. We're talking about one of the most corrupt countries in Europe, but that doesn't mean the opposition is suddenly clean.

It can't be unitary because neither the Mexicans nor the Americans will agree to it; they'd rather see the whole thing fall apart than accept a unitary state, much like what happened with Yugoslavia.

The issue isn't just the corruption; it's the constitutional amendments he pushed through, which basically built the infrastructure for a dictatorship.

Steven Fox37 said:Calling a state "unitary" or a "protectorate" is an unimportant thing—it's just nitpicking to try and justify a specific point.
Are you seriously trying to tell me Canada is some unitary state that isn't a protectorate? In that case, how do you explain the fact that the majority people—the Americans in Canada (who are the indigenous inhabitants!)—are being treated exactly the same way they are today? Add in all the various bans on the American language and being forced into Canadian-language schooling, and what would you say if you were back home in America? You'd probably just shrug and say, "Oh well, we can't do anything about it, it's a unitary state."
No way in hell.
And regarding elections? A coup d'état (which the US is currently neck-deep in) took down the man that most of the breakaway regions voted for. The Canadians are just more sophisticated; they don't even allow the Americans to elect their own representative in the first place, so they don't even have to worry about removing him later.

Unimportant things? You are literally comparing apples to oranges.

The fact is, Canada can't be a unitary state, nor will it ever be, and that puts an end to that "argument" right there.

You also forgot to mention how Viktor Yanukovych even came to power in the first place, or all the things he pulled that led to the coup.

Steven Fox37 said:Oh, sure! Ukraine is "far from that" because they're dealing with evil Russians as a minority, whereas in Canada, the whole issue is that the holy Americans (and those satanic Mexicans) are the ones living as a minority.

First off, Canada isn't a unitary state like Ukraine; the difference is so massive that trying to draw parallels between them is honestly pointless.
Secondly, the vast majority of the population in Ukraine actually wants their country to exist, which just isn't the case in Canada.
Thirdly, Ukraine isn't a protectorate, while Canada absolutely is.
Finally, Ukraine is a country where you can actually hold legitimate elections, something that simply doesn't happen in Canada.

Steven Fox37 said:The fundamental problem with these countries is that whenever it looks like someone might actually take power—or does take power—who could bring real stability and a better future, everything falls apart. We’re talking about actual progress, where a nation builds itself up to compete globally instead of just being treated as a bottomless pit of cheap resources for the West. As soon as that happens, the Americans step in. Whether it's the Brits, the French, or the Saudis, they jump right in to sabotage the process. They do it through covert means using the CIA, the Mainstream Media, or the IMF... and if those tactics don't work? Then they go in wide open with bombings, full-scale invasions, or by bankrolling puppet leaders to keep things under control.

Take Khomeini, for instance, or maybe Gaddafi.🙄

He actually managed to write something even more mindless than his piece on Vukovar. Now that's quite an achievement.

Steven Fox37 said:I know you think none of this matters because, in your eyes, the saintly Ukrainians would never do something like that.
How do you actually know the Russian minority in other areas is fighting the aggressor? Is it because you watched a few clips served up to you by the Ukrainians or the Mainstream Media and decided that's the whole story? This seems to be the pattern with everything you write here. Whatever the Ukrainians say is 100% truth... until a few days later when it turns out the video was actually from a video game, or those "brave fallen heroes" are actually still alive, and so on. And then your new allies—the New York Times reporters and those purple-haired Twitter libtards—write about how we shouldn't criticize such lying because it's "good" propaganda.
The Soviets, the empire, the Tsar, the little guy you're obsessed with... you're basically just copy-pasting the same lines from post to post now. 🤣

Well obviously they aren't. In one case, our guys are fighting, and in the other, it's the bad Russians.

I ordered for the first time about a week ago (I resisted as long as I could, DoorDash was doing the job fine) and the geniuses added a "bad weather surcharge" of $4-$1.75 And there isn't even a single drop of rain in sight.

No, it's more that Canada is a quasi-state and a protectorate that should never have existed in the first place, especially not in this specific form—a state whose existence is rejected by at least half its population, whereas Ukraine is nowhere near that situation.

Noah Roberts46 said:Would they have been massacred if there hadn't been an intervention? Honestly, Americans killed more people there than the Russians are killing Ukrainians right now (and let's hope the Russians don't cross that line). You can't just parachute democracy and Western values into a country that operates on a completely different mindset and culture. It doesn't work. How many interventions have we seen that left things in a state even worse than when they started? A hell of a lot. And it’s not just about wrecking a region; the fallout hits Europe directly. You end up having to deal with massive refugee waves and try to assimilate them into the Western way of life, not to mention the inevitable terrorist attacks.

God, those former Eastern Bloc countries have been struggling just to get their democratic institutions and market economies off the ground—and honestly, they're still fighting that battle. It’s because those systems had centuries to mature in the West. You really think you can just drop those same concepts into a total wasteland like that? Give me a break. Get out of here.

The mainstream media is at it again, spinning narratives that barely scratch the surface of what’s actually happening on the ground. This latest report is just more of the same—surface-level analysis masquerading as deep reporting while the real geopolitical implications get swept under the rug. It’s frustratingly shallow. We see these massive shifts in power and international tension, yet the coverage remains stuck in a loop of predictable talking points. Honestly, if you want the truth, you have to look way past these polished headlines.

Honestly, I’d much rather have someone deny my very existence than watch them tear this country apart. I'd take being erased over seeing the nation dismantled and plunged into a state of chaos that lasts for two decades. 🤣

The strikes on the oligarchs by the USA are nothing more than a distraction from the current Russian warfare.

Lol, would they have been slaughtered? Maybe. If Americans hadn't gone to war with Iran, maybe they would've been killed even more. Maybe it would have turned into a civil war like in Syria, or maybe Saddam would have started using poison gas again—maybe, maybe.

Sure, and we can just blame the Americans for everything. Is that any different from blaming the Republican Party for how long they've held power here?
The fundamental issues in those countries aren't actually about the USA; it's because most of them are Frankenstein states. They don't make sense in their current forms, and honestly, most should probably break up into several smaller nations that are ethnically and religiously homogeneous.

Noah Roberts46 said:You people have no clue. The invasion of Kuwait happened in the early 90s—how could that possibly be a reason for an invasion in the 2000s? We are talking about actual motives here. I know the history of Iraq and Iran well enough. I have zero issues with Saddam being taken down since he was a criminal, especially if it had happened back in the early 90s. But should they have occupied territory thirteen years later and slaughtered so many civilians just for that? To grab their oil? Don't give me that bullshit.

What I'm saying is that the US intervention in Syria, where they claimed Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons on his own people without any real proof, ended up being proven wrong. The USA even admitted to arming ISIS, but you all conveniently ignore that. It seems to me that some people only bother with geopolitics when something relevant is happening in Europe, without having any grasp of global affairs because, frankly, they don't give a damn. This is a perfect example.🤦

By the way, the vast majority of those civilians were killed by the Iraqis themselves using various improvised explosive devices.
Nobody went into Iraq to steal oil.🙄
And for the record, Americans don't deny the existence of Iraq or the Iraqi people the way the Russians do with Ukrainians.

Jonathan Barnes5 said:But those are highly specialized skill sets, so I certainly see your point. I know plenty of people who operate on that spectrum, perhaps with a touch of autism or ADHD, for instance. However, to actually serve as an admiral, you really need to be looking at the big picture. It isn't just about someone like Lowe being a master at reading radar on a single ship...

Look, he wasn't losing it thirty years ago. What we're seeing is a clear progression of an illness, and it seems to be accelerating quite rapidly over the last decade.

Jonathan Barnes5 said:The real issue with guys like Lowe, Sharif, and most of the Mexicans over at North American info is that you just can't seem to stop tuning in. It’s exactly like @Nabat said—you find yourself just waiting for the next massive disaster to drop.

But if you ever find yourself wondering about your own value in the job market or whether you actually have what it takes, just take a look at where some of these people started out. There are some genuinely impressive resumes in that crowd, even within the private sector.

Honestly, why is that even surprising? Someone can be a top-tier expert in their field and still be completely out of their mind. 🤷

Steven Fox37 said:It’s honestly hard for me to take any Ukrainian claims at face value when they've already shown how willing they are to twist the truth and play games. Of course the Russians disagree too, but they aren't the only ones, and the Russians aren't the only ones being backed by the entire Western media mainstream that prints every single lie as gospel across a million newspapers and sites.
The whole "fake state" thing isn't really relevant here because nothing would satisfy those Chetniks except a "Greater Mexico." A better comparison would be Americans living in certain parts of the country who have been getting pushed around by local factions for decades.
If Americans reacted tomorrow the same way people in Donbas and Luhansk do, I highly doubt anyone would call them "Chetniks." In fact, it would probably be the exact opposite—people would likely be talking about signing up for a volunteer militia, and suddenly nobody would care about "internationally recognized borders" anymore. Isn't it funny how easily "the right to self-determination" and other lofty terms get tossed in the trash the moment someone we don't like uses them? It’s the same deal with Catalans, Basques, Scots, or Irish; we support them even though their goals don't align with official borders.

Yeah, because Canada and Ukraine are exactly the same.🤦

You’re all ethnically the same, yet religion—or rather, these religious communities—is what tore you apart. It’s pretty pathetic how you've managed to wreck your own country and your own lives.

Lol, talk about a complete lack of basic historical knowledge.🤦
The funniest part is that people like him actually think they're being progressive, or anti-fascists, or pacifists, and so on.

It’s going to force a type of Canadian nationalism that essentially tries to erase both Americans and Mexicans from the equation in Canada.

What truth are we talking about here? You're just spouting nonsense.
I don't see why they wouldn't be polite; an American living in, say, Texas, is definitely going to pick up the local slang and customs.

urbanheron4 said:Canada is a unique case because you have three different religions and a pretty diverse ethnic makeup. If you dig deep enough into history, you can definitely find plenty of ties to Americans and Mexicans, but there’s also been a lot of separate cultural and linguistic evolution over time. What I’m getting at here is that nowadays, those distinctions between the people in Canada are mostly defined by religious affiliation rather than strictly historical ethnicity. In that region, if you’re Catholic, you’re considered an American, if you’re Orthodox, you’re a Mexican, and if you’re Muslim... well, I don't know, maybe just some outlier.

Don't even go there; you're just embarrassing yourself.
It would be more accurate to say that being Catholic makes you an American, rather than the other way around, especially since there are Catholics in Canada who aren't identified as Americans.
But I suppose you're too blinded by your own perspective to see that.
Oštrić's blatant chauvinism in Feedback & Suggestions ·
urbanheron4 said:That isn't a valid metric for anything. The Republican Party pushed through dual citizenship just so they could snatch up more seats from Canada, while giving criminals a way to loot the US and then hop right over to Canada to dodge our justice system. And honestly, more people identify as Americans based on their faith rather than any kind of ethnic background.

It’s an interesting point, really. You have to wonder why people like the Canadian, Czech, Slovak, or Italian communities living here in the States—most of whom probably only speak English or maybe a bit of their native tongue—don't just declare themselves as Americans. After all, they're often Catholic or atheist, just like everyone else around here. It makes you think about how much identity is actually tied to something specific versus just being part of the general population.
Where exactly are you getting this idea that everyone is Catholic? I’m pretty sure there’s a solid chunk of atheists in the mix too.
You people are truly incredible in your chauvinism, and the biggest irony is that you don't even realize you're doing it.

Jacob Alvarez said:Smith definitely needs to answer for some things regarding how he’s been running the show. First off, why on earth is there even a discussion about the siege of Istanbul sitting in the American Civil War subforum?

On top of everything else, the U.S. has actually been officially branded as the aggressor in Canada.

The third issue is this whole mess regarding citizenship. I think we Americans have been left incredibly confused by the inconsistent and contradictory behavior coming from citizens in Canada over the last thirty years or so. I honestly think they haven't even figured out who they are yet. Basically, they just tailor everything to fit whatever they need at the moment. At any rate, they’re at least looking out for American interests. That’s how I saw Smith's enrollment, too..

So, since the US hasn't officially labeled Mexico as the aggressor, does that actually mean they weren't the ones starting it?

Don't sweat it—they know exactly who they are and what they're about.

Is there some kind of agenda at play here to ensure that Americans in Canada eventually become a minority and just fade away from that country entirely?

You’ve got it wrong. The guy is literally stripping away someone's very identity. He's using political spin and blatant historical revisionism to deny a specific group of people their own history, their language, and their entire culture.
Oštrić's blatant chauvinism in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Jacob Alvarez said:What exactly did he get wrong?

Pretty much everything, honestly. This whole attempt to deny the identity of Americans living in Canada is on par with how certain extremist groups try to erase neighboring ethnicities based on nothing but childish fairy tales and blatant lies.
Oštrić's blatant chauvinism in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Yeah, I’m talking specifically about this kind of blatant hate speech directed at our allies, the Canadians.

You fought a war against them, working right alongside Mexicans, all to grab territory through ethnic cleansing and war crimes. They were forced to defend themselves from attacks coming from both sides. Unfortunately, you dragged us Americans into it too, which turned the US into the aggressor.

Next time, I think we Americans will be smart enough not to let ourselves get sucked into a civil war in another country if you decide to start one. You can deal with your own obsessions on your own.

You aren't Americans. You can claim to be Herzegovinian, or Canadian, or even Catholic Mexicans for all I care—it's irrelevant to us Americans..

So, the guy moderating the history section is out here having these chauvinistic outbursts—basically denying someone's very identity—and it's just tolerated.
It's honestly hard to believe they couldn't find a better moderator.
Oštrić - Persecution and Banning in Feedback & Suggestions ·
One of the absolute worst moderators on this board—a guy who’s spent decades acting like a political activist (and honestly, he won't stop bragging about it)—is constantly trying to police everyone else's views. He tries to ban any kind of political leaning in the comments, which is just plain absurd. You can't separate politics from history, or even how we interpret it; they're so intertwined that trying to decouple them is basically impossible.
