Does a draft actually cause illness? in Health ·
mellowraven32 said:The concept of a "draft" causing illness doesn't even exist in the US, except for maybe some old wives' tales. You can't actually get sick from a draft, and it certainly isn't the cause of any disease. Theoretically, the only thing that could happen is a slight dip in your immune system, but we know that sudden temperature shifts—thermal stress—can lower white blood cell counts. However, that's purely theoretical because a simple draft isn't enough to trigger that kind of physical stress...

But in the real world, a draft and getting chilled equals a weakened immune system. Period.
Shin pain after tumor treatment in Health ·
Laura Taylor11 said:So here is the situation: two years ago, I had a benign tumor removed from my left lower leg. What was supposed to be a routine procedure turned into a complete nightmare involving three separate surgeries to close the wound.
I didn't have any issues over the last two years, but I recently started running again and the condition is a disaster. The pain is intense; the entire area where the tumor was is throbbing, and the bone itself hurts terribly whenever it's touched.
The pain subsides if I take a few days off from running, but it's the same story every single time.
Since I don't want to cause unnecessary alarm, does anyone know if this is normal even after two years, or could this point to something more serious?

Laura Taylor11...
What kind of tumor was it, and what was the specific diagnosis?
Which bone in the lower leg are we talking about—the fibula or the tibia?
What exactly were the complications during the surgery?
Does the pain occur only during physical exertion, or do you feel it while resting as well?
When was the last time you had an MRI, and what did the results show?
One surgery doesn't mean the problem is permanently solved. Even benign tumors
can behave unpredictably.
Running is definitely not recommended when dealing with bone tumor issues.
The bone shouldn't be painful to the touch, or at least not severely, unless there is a
mechanical injury involved.
It is difficult to determine what is normal and what isn't, but sometimes it is better to sound the alarm
so you can seek professional medical help in time, rather than convincing ourselves that we are
perfectly healthy, especially when we know we have a specific medical
history.
I truly hope you feel better and that everything with your leg turns out
to be fine. If you need advice, reach out and I will gladly help as much as I can.
Nicole Jones12 said:We are dealing with an unknown virus here. Unfortunately, viruses have this nasty habit of mutating 😢

Doctors are mentioning a mutated virus. Is there any actual information available regarding this 'Russian virus'?
rapidheron2 said:Where on earth did your friend get hit by those ticks? Which part of the country was he even in? I am truly sorry to hear about him; my thoughts are with him, and I really hope he pulls through and everything turns out fine! 👍

But honestly, I’m starting to worry because it seems like this disease is getting much more severe. Is the virus mutating? Does the vaccine even protect us anymore, and if so, how much?! 🤷

Thanks so much for reaching out and for the kind words. The infected tick was picked up in the USA. This is actually the first case like this recorded in this area. And yes, the virus has mutated—one doctor even referred to it as a "Russian virus," so we're scouring international websites for more info. Apparently, the vaccine helps prevent meningitis, but it doesn't work against Lyme disease. Sadly, our friend is still in a coma.
Is it possible that absolutely nobody here knows anything about tick-borne meningitis?

Greetings...
Tragically, our dear friend mentioned in the article above fell victim to an infected tick bite. It started off looking like nothing more than a common flu, but then came the paralysis, followed by a coma—and he has been stuck in that state for 30 days now. The doctors claim they have exhausted every medical option available; at this point, we are left clinging to nothing but hope and prayer that our dear friend might actually wake up. Does anyone here possess any actual knowledge or firsthand experience regarding tick-borne meningoencephalitis? Please, reach out. Is there even a realistic chance of him regaining consciousness or making a full recovery?
Thank you...
