It looks like even the user from ESPN hasn't weighed in on this thread yet, which means the patriots likely have more support than the stats currently suggest....
Rooting for some other team? That's a non-starter. Period. We aren't going to just "go with the flow," as Justin Timberlake might put it... everything has its place.

Edit: My first brush with the NFL was back in the 90s watching games as a kid. I think even some Super Bowls aired on local networks. Being a total glory hunter back then, I pulled for the Cowboys because they had such a killer offense. The Packers sticks in my mind most, though, mainly because the Super Bowl MVP was Desmond Howard from the special teams.
Yeah, local stations carried the Super Bowl back in the 90s. If you had satellite, you could catch it on SAT.1 or watch the finals on ARD...
