At Monza, Lewis Hamilton was actually trying to make the move. Here, Mark Webber was busy blocking him—playing the rear guard, you know?
If Lewis Hamilton made any mistake, it was probably not leaving an extra half-meter of breathing room. He could have likely squeezed through if he'd given it a bit more space on the right.
In that moment, Mark Webber was sitting right in his blind spot. Lewis Hamilton simply didn't see him and thought the overtake was already done. Then, boom—he gets torpedoed.
Of course, you can expect the little piglet to argue that he didn't brake hard enough.
Honestly, the look on Mark Webber's face in that room where the three of them were sitting before the podium tells the whole story. You can practically feel the frustration radiating off him. Sebastian Vettel is ahead of him (again), having caused a mess—which, let's be honest, probably doesn't bother him much.
Meanwhile, Vettel looks like a happy kid, and Fernando Alonso is just doing his own thing again...
You're really missing out if you aren't watching the post-race interviews on the BBC. Those few shots from the podium room can give you a totally wrong impression. Webber was actually in pretty good spirits, and the matter is closed anyway. Everyone—the commentators, Whitmarsh, Christian Horner, and even the stewards—unanimously called it a "racing incident." Both were at fault; one just got lucky while the other didn't. Case closed.
